Asha is the proud parent of 3 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM - now called Brodie - as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha. Brodie had a lot of trouble fending off intruders which has made him a bit flaky in the fish catching and delivery department. Poor old Asha didn't eat for over 2 days last week. The main intruder was KL5, who seems to have stopped hanging around so much now, which is good as we approach hatch date and the need for fish will ramp up.

I wonder which egg this was? Say the hatch was last evening/night:
25 April - egg 1 = 39 days
28 April - egg 2 = 36 days
Is that right? If this osplet is egg #1, we should have another very pronto!

Oh such wonderful news to find here. Thank you Catlady for suggesting last light (21.48) that 'maybe hatching in progress'. How right you were! Asha has been so concentrated in building up the nest rim that she is obscured her chick from us completely! Such a shame, but we know they, if indeed there are a 'they', won't fall overboard!

09.31 Brodie landed on 'Odin's Perch'
09.31 staff arrived, and the cam moved to the nest - I got a whirlygig, sorry! Is this part of the Sunday Syndrome? Everything is taking quite a while to process.
I had been thru the cam before it kicked in, so a quick resume
11.12 Asha flew for a comfort break. An osprey was seen flying thru the skyline
11.13 Asha landed, followed by Brodie. There were contact cheeps. Asha picked up the discarded fish and took some flesh.
11.14.44 Brodie flew off, out of sight. Asha fed herself, then leaned forward to feed the chick, but she was too far away so fed herself.
11.16.01 Again she leaned forward, whilst still holding onto the fish, but again the chick was out of reach. She took further bites for herself.
11.17.39 Another attempt, and more fish for herself. She won't let go of the fish, preferring to eat herself.
11.18 that's better, she moved closer and may have been successful in giving the chick some fish.
11.19.00 She shook her talons free of the fish, moved to the cup and finally settled.
11.49 Asha is gular fluttering! I love that phrase too! It sounds so knowledgeable, but that's years of following the Forum for you me, and being taught by the early regular team for which I thank them, even if they tend not to join us these days.
I have to say the quality of the PTZ cam is so good, particularly when compared with 27 March 2010, EJ. The RSPB IT system had an overhaul and we could create threads and post pics rather than just commenting on a post from the VC team, usually Richard Thaxton. This must have been an early attempt by me before I realised you could change the frame colour!
Asha is finding it difficult to keep her eyes open under the heat!
