Tuesday 9th May 2023
Good morning LM6 looked to have a peaceful night on the nest. The camera was obscured by rain splodges and I could hear the wind so the weather was it’s usual inclement.
05.00 Day cam came on and both birds were on the nest. LJ2 standing beside LM6.
LJ2 took over incubation at 05.02. LM6 flew to the preening perch.
LM6 returned to the nest at 06.06
And resumed incubation.
LM6 had a good old preen whilst incubating.
07.26 LJ2 returned to take over. LM6 was fish calling but left to allow LJ2 to incubate.
LJ2 has been reluctant to give up incubating this morning. LM6 has had to fly off the nest a couple of times after arrival and then come back to encourage him to leave.
Here she is asking nicely before taking over at 08.54. LJ2 has been on the eggs for just over an hour and a half.
It never ceases to amaze me how these ospreys can get into these positions! LM6 cleaning the bottom of her back.
09.53 LM6 either telling LJ2 that she wants to stay on the eggs or to go away and fish. He decides to leave.
The birds have continued to share incubation throughout the morning and into the afternoon.
They swap over.
14.24 LM6 currently on the nest. The skies have darkened again.
16.08 LM6 starts fish calling excitedly, LJ2 is on his way.
And look what he’s brought, a sizeable headless fish.
LM6 lands at the feeding post marked. I hope the corvids aren’t in the area. She lost a fish there to them 2 days ago.
Thankfully LM6 ate undisturbed on the post.
16.56 she returned to the nest with a small portion of the fish for LJ2.
Lots of contact whistles as they exchanged the fish, it took LM6 a wee while to let go.
LJ2 manages to get the fish though
And off he goes with his extra treat.
