HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a joyful, peaceful week! Happy holiday to all those who celebrate Sunday.

I may have baby Northern Cardinals in the nest on the side of my enclosed porch. The Cardinal pair have been back and forth to the nest constantly for the last couple of days. They usually have 2 broods in a season, so they start early.

I was also very happy to see that all my neighbors' chickens made it through the storms. The big red hen was glad to see me, too, and pecked my shoe.

Love to all.

  • AQ:  Amazing how Mother Nature manages to survive against all (most?) odds - with a little help from her friends.

Rusty:  Just browsing our local Independent (regional free newspaper) and see a Beethoven concert that includes the West Coast Premiere of a composition based on a dream by Beethoven.... Also, the Danish String Quartet is playing Schubert pieces, including (interrupted by?) the U.S. Premiere of something.  It all sounds suspiciously modern.....

  • Oh no ... surely the modernists are not taking on Beethoven?!?!? Leave him alone!!!
  • We've had mixed weather, as forecast: mostly showers but this afternoon there was a lull with some sunshine so we managed a walk on a beach. Then more rain as soon as we returned to base. Later, we heard thunder and saw a neighbour looking skywards -- a lovely double rainbow!!
  • LINDY: Oh, wow! A double rainbow is a precious sight.
  • HEATHER – Perhaps as well that your s-i-l is back home. A cyclone, Ilsa, is heading to the Broome – Port Headland area of WA.

I have been sitting in our bay window “supervising” the event Next Door (not the Fence Drama People but other side of us). Stuff was delivered to their front lawn and this morn a huge crane has been lifting panels over their roof to back yard. It is taking a lot longer than on Kevin McCloud’s program LOL. On Sunday I asked our tall s-i-l if he could see what was happening next door. He says it is probably a new verandah across back of house. I intended to plant more bulbs before predicted rain but I would rather not be digging with one eye over shoulder waiting for the crane to topple!

  • AQ: How thoughtless of the neighbors to delay your bulb planting! Hope the crane is long gone.

    Take care everyone.
  • Busy packing up today. The sun is out just now but its quite cold, and rain predicted for our journey back.

We've been enjoying Classic fm Radio, which has been playing the top voted 300 pieces of music over the holiday - some pieces I have not heard for a long time.

AQ - Good Luck with the bulb planting!

Lots of gorse by the roadside here, so colourful. We looked up hoping to see a Red Kite in the sky where I thought I'd seen one, once, but no luck yesterday.

  • Oh nooooo!!!! I Just did a long post, copied it (in case) pressed reply and it disappeared!!!! Not amused!!!
So, here goes again if I can remember it!!
Annette - I understand why orchestras feel the need to include new compositions but why do “composers” feel the need to write such weird stuff? Surely they want people to enjoy their music - or maybe not!!!
AQ - I hope all the work with the crane went off without a hitch. It’s a shame you couldn’t get your bulbs planted though.
Lindy - the gorse is lovely at the moment isn’t it? I hope you see a red kite. There are quite a few down the Conwy Valley. They haven’t quite made it to my neck of the woods yet but I don’t think it will be long.
I am not feeling marvellous today. I have taken a covid test but it is negative. I think it is a combination of my cracked tooth root (the antibiotics haven’t worked) and hay fever from the tree pollen. My next dental appointment is next Monday. I am soldiering on and going out for lunch today with a friend today for her birthday.
I had quite a day of socialising yesterday. My school friend arrived at about 10.30 and, after a quick coffee, we set off for a walk. We were, of course, at the furthest point from my house, when the heavens opened. I had to lend her a pair of joggers to wear whilst her jeans dried out during lunch. She seemed to need to talk to me about some family issues so it was quite intense. She went at about 3 and I got changed ready to have a lift with some friends to another friend who wanted to try out her beef and banana curry on us. It was unusual but tasty. I was pretty tired when I got home after all that!!!

  • RUSTY- not surprised you were tired... hope you feel better soon
