Brief history of Manton Bay:
The nest was first occupied by White 08(97) and Green 5N(04) in 2007 who raised 2 chicks. In 2008 they paired again but the nest failed and in 2009 it was unused. In 2010 a new pair, Green 5R(04) and an unringed female nicknamed Mrs 5R, took up residence and over the next four years raised 11 chicks. Green 5R(04) failed to return in 2014 and Mrs 5R paired with a new mate, Blue 28(10) and laid 3 eggs. Blue 33(11) arrived determined to claim this nest and evicted Blue 28(10). Blue 33(11) kicked out the eggs and spent the remainder of the season bonding with Mrs 5R who was then officially named “Maya”. Since 2015, Maya and Blue 33(11) have returned reuniting their partnership and to date have successfully raised 23 chicks.

Here’s wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season.

This was a misguided waste of effort - I could have sworn I saw KAREN say she had trouble finding this fish (and indeed, so did I, even with your guidance, BART but I thought you were KAREN)... so I did a special portrait of it
I nearly did one of the EG as well, but somehow sanity overtook me!
As this nest seems to be going so smoothly, I'm not going thru all the footage but hope to have backup if anyone has queries - until I delete the files.

Bart, Thanks for the link to ospreycam.net. Started to read the home page and sorry to say there is a small error. If the information came from someone at Rutland, I would guess that that person was not actually following the Manton Bay nest at the time of 5R or in 2014 when he did not return! As far as I know, the name Maya was not given to the MB female until the season of 2014, after male 5R did not return. Prior to that, when she was breeding with 5R, folks on this forum and possibly the Rutland folk themselves, called her Mrs 5R. Well, she could not really be called that after 5R did not return and when she had another partner! Rutland then named her Maya, after some discussion. Sorry, I have forgotten if there was any vote, etc. and it is too late tonight to look it up--must get some sleep. Anyway, thanks for everything and keep up the good work!
Kind regards, Ann
Morning ALL and thanks for all the updates.
Major works going on here in the house just now so limited viewing!!
A FB post from Rutland just confirming 25(10) is on a private nest and hopefully we do hear more about her and the other nests later in the season.
No, no vote Gardenbirder, at least not for us. It was a combination of 'Manton' and 'Bay' sort of by the Staff cos ''the resident female of the Manton Bay nest '' they decided was too much of a 'mouthful' to keep on typing .
If I have that wrong I will stand corrected ..............
Gardenbirder [Anne] - thanks for all the info and also about the naming of Maya. I recall Rutland gave us three names to choose from , "Maya" winning the vote.
Edit: Cirrus, ah yes, I recall that too about the combination to come up with the name Maya. I can't remember the other names.
Appears to be quite blustery at Manton Bay this morning -
33 and Maya both currently on the nest
mating

Good luck with the renovations Karen!
That’s good to hear Blue25 is back on her nest. Hopefully Blue11 joins her soon and we get updates of all the nests.
Blue 33 on the nest early this morning, when Maya joins him, they mate straight away.
And more during the morning
Fitting in house renovations as well
