The nest failed in 2020 and 2019 but the new male KR3 and Unringed female returned in 2021 and raised 3 chicks.
In 2022 the nest collapsed but the one chick Blue 640 survived and went on to be a well fed and cared for chick.
Mary Rogers along with her husband found the chick when the nest collapsed and set in motion a chain of events that resulted in it being ringed Blue 640 which has proved very beneficial as you can see from my following post. Mary named the chick "The Bairn"

Some absolutely fantastic news from Jean-marie Dupart today. He has photographed Blue 640 (The Bairn) in Senegal. Blue 640 is so special as he/she survived the fall from the collapsed nest at Balgavies so to now see she/he made it to her wintering grounds has made so many people very happy.
EDIT: Interestingly her father KR3 was also sighted by Jean-marie in January this year in Senegal too.

What a great ending to her story (I think the Bairn is a female ) Thank you Mary
Thank you, MARY - what a magical true story

Amazing, she looks to be the proudest Osprey on the planet!
IMAGICAT
Absolutely amazing news, Mary! LotL Fb, have today posted their delight too. The Perthshire Ranger, 'Raz' Rasmussen, was part of the team that was involved in Blue 640's rescue.
'Raz' wrote a wonderful blog detailing the rescue (as mentioned): It takes a team to rescue an osprey
Many thanks also, Mary, for a super in-depth OP.
What a wonderful story Sandra, thank you so much for including the link. I now have 6 pics in my Balgavies folder and the season hasn't even started
Valerie
It was so very exciting Valerie to get the news, all thanks to Jean-marie doing his great work out in Senegal and Gambia.
