Daily summary Thursday 20th July 2023 An interesting day with some ups and downs, especially for newly fledged Ludo, whose third flight resulted in Dorcha treating him as a stranger and divebombing him, much as she did to Willow last year. Perhaps that unsettled him, because he missed his landing and tumbled down the side of the nest landing in the branches below, but fortunately was unhurt and flew off after a while, returning and making a decent landing. Dorcha can be forgiven her mistake because she again spent a lot of time alarm-calling and flying off the nest to deal with intruders, while Louis carried on with his usual duties and delivered three fish, taking the tally to 284. Prince is still absent from Nest One but Garry was very much in evidence, bringing three fish for Affric today. He also brought sticks and nesting materials - he first showed up in the area last year and seems to be claiming Nest One as his own, fingers crossed he turns up again next year with a partner.
There's still time to nominate Woodland Trust for a £5,000 grant, nominations close tomorrow night. You can nominate both WT Scotland and WT as they are registered as two separate charities: climate.movementforgood.com/
Blast from the past - on this day in 2019, Mallie fledged:
And on this day in 2020, a new perspective - seeing the family in splitscreen. I matched up the nest cam footage with some of Liz Bracken's long-lens footage of the area surrounding the nest, with her permission.
