2022 return dates: LM12 (Laddie) - 13th March; NC0(16) - 23rd March

Looking forward to welcoming back Laddie and NC0 to this wonderful location at Loch of the Lowes. Will Laddie, in his 12th season, beat his earliest arrival date that he achieved last year? Will NC0, her 4th season, be heard before she is seen on cam? Could we see the return of their 2021 offspring, LR1 and LR2? Here's hoping they have safe, spring migrations so as to grace our screens once again.

  • A quick catch up:

Laddie came to the nest at 9:13 with a large clump dried grass

Both Laddie and NC0 had a sweet conversation as he encouraged her to take a break

NC0 came back shortly afterwards with a stick...

Headed off again and came back with a small clump of green moss

She left again at 9:25 to allow more incubation time for Laddie

    Laddie's incubation ended at 9:37

Another exchange of incubation at 12:40 (no fish delivery)

    And again at 13:08

    NC0 currently at 13:15

  • That was a really interesting article about the eggs from the LOTL Facebook yesterday thanks Sandra. I didn’t realise the 1st egg was bigger. Slight smile
  • I didn't either, Glider. You're welcome :)

  • At 15:28, an unringed intruder came above the nest, NC0 alarm called/screeched in a way I don't think I've ever heard her do before - it was ear piecing!

It hovered over the nest at first before heading downwards

NC0 rose and spread her wings to flap it away

    Off it went

The intruder flew high, turning to the right and then out of view

It flew back round over the Loch

And landed on NC0's diving branch of the birch

It wasn't on their long before it took off

It appeared to head left after this but thenI lost sight of it

  • Laddie arrived to the nest with a small clump of grass in his left talons at 16:00

    NC0 was fish calling

He flew from the nest at 16:04 hopefully to get NC0 a fish - her calls were quite insistent

    NC0 currently at 17:08

  • A small fish for NC0 at 18:36

19:05 NC0 had moved to her diving branch of the birch

  • 19:09 NC0 back to the nest with a piece of bark (The brown smudge on the left of the pic is an insect on the cam)

NC0 to the nest cup, Laddie prepared to fly off. The insect moved

Laddie headed off to the right, he wasn't seen flying over the Loch as NC0 settled

  • 21:01 Laddie to the nest. NC0 was fish calling

He only stayed for about a minute or so before leaving

He headed off around the birch corner...

But then came back over the Loch (in that area) to land on the birch

  • 21:26 Laddie was still on the birch

Night cam came on at 21:27

  • Good morning

    Laddie arrived at 5:15

When NC0 finally rose from the eggs and headed off a few minutes later, the cam zoomed in on Laddie

6:20 NC0 returned with some nesting material

It was a bit of a messy changeover, NC0 stepped on Laddie and then toppled slightly as he rose from the eggs

8:00 She has been sitting on the eggs since then. The cam has remained on close up view
