In 2008 the eldest chick was called Nethy and the 2nd one Deshar. The one that died was unofficially named "The Wee Yin"
I know that Tiger!   How could I possibly forget Deshar's migration flight.  I think it was a typo.
    Thank you for reminding me.

  • 12 July 2022 - Ringing Day!

Edited:  Chick #1 Blue 1C2(22)m  and  chick #2  Blue 1C1(22)f     both weighed 1.5kg   one C two, and one c one

08.53.01   Cam went down.  Asha could be heard calling just before it went off.

09.36.22  Cam back on.  Two chicks lying flat in the nest.  No sight nor sound of Asha or Axel.  What a lovely day

    09.49    Is mum up there?

09.51       Interested in the outside world

09.57        Asha landed on the dead tree

10.05        Asha flies back, having been on the dead tree for a few minutes

10.11        Is this bold chick, #1 chick or a female?

11.03  No sign of Axel or a fish, yet

How wonderful to be able to see the nest and the wider environs again.  I wonder what on earth WillifeWindows can do to prevent it happening again.  It's just bad luck and a good aim.  It has happened on other nests (granted not many) this year.  Well done WildlifeWindows for cleaning the cam up so well, and congratulations to the ringing team.  I do hope that Roy Dennis was involved, even if it was only on the ground!

I've been waiting and waiting to add him onto the end of my video - then I'll have both parents with their official names.

I was thinking (and may have said so... or not) that the new nest is more exposed after they did some clearance in the interests of Ospreys - is that why we've been subjected to such strong winds nearly all season and was the chick-poop whipped onto the lens by the wind?  It was my impression that the poop might not have reached the lens without the gusty wind.

Here's hoping we get a video - there will be pictures for sure Blush

Thank you for all that reporting, SHEILA :-*

  • 12.12 Asha has flown for a comfort break

12.13  returned. and calling.   Axel is on the dead tree - with fish possibly!

12.18  Axel flew off, watched intently by Asha.  'Where's he gone, what's he up to!'  Clearly he hasn't got a fish.

    12.20  Where's he gone

  • Can't wait for Axel any longer, so here are the 2 chicks and Asha after ringing:

  • Wow, we can see again, just have to wait now and hear what sex they are, their numbers and hopefully not too long, their names. My goodness how they have grown, teenagers now!! Away a run, in the car, with hubby as it is a lovely day, not too hot, SYAL

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
