HAPPY NEW WEEK!
I hope everyone has a joyful week. The Brood X cicadas were screaming today on my patch. About a week ago, I noticed some big holes at the bottom of my trees. Various critters dig holes in my yard, so I didn't think much about it. Since then, I've seen articles about some of last year's Brood X cicadas popping up this year. Apparently, some of the bugs, called "stragglers," decided to sleep in, and they're appearing this year instead of last year. In most cases, it's because our soil didn't warm up to the required 64 degrees Fahrenheit until too late to wake them up in 2021. So, some of the noisy screechers decided to hit their snooze alarm and climb out this year instead!
Next Instalment: We are still on Sunday the 29th, as we had some lunch after our train trip, and then got back on land to explore the tiny town of Flam and to see the Railway Museum. It was only small but full of interesting information about how the rail track had been built, with old sepia pictures of the hard working navvies and their primitive equipment. Attached to it was a shop full of souvenirs and craft items, so I bought some small presents and got myself a pottery chicken, LOL!! It began to rain as we walked back to the ship, good job it was only a few hundred yards.
Then we boarded again and had a well earned cup of tea. We left Flam at 5.00pm and stood on our own balcony to look back at where we had been.
This was taken whilst at lunch, through a window. It's not a row of tiny houses on the waters edge, it's boathouses.
My OH admiring the view.
The town and valley receding.
Waterfalls again, on both sides of the fjord.
Such magnificence... and peace.
Every mountain and peak must have a name, but we struggled with the language anyway which is difficult!
The gulls followed us and I tried to capture them when they came near. As Lyn says, they're very skilled fliers.
I liked the patterns on the water here, catching the light.
We watched for ages as the panorama slid by.
It became wet again but didn't spoil things. What a day - never to be forgotten. And there was more to come.
