Under the careful care and protection of Maya and 33(11), all three chicks have thrived and later this month we will learn more about them when ringing takes place.

  • Walking back to the car before we get locked in for the night! lol! And bumb into 33 flying over us WITHOUT a fish! Oh noooo hope he can get a tiddler in the bay before dark to keep them going! Goodnight All!
  • Goodnight LAM and thank you, your on-the-spot reporting has been fantastic to read! Have a good evening :)

  • Morning ALL

LAM thanks very much for all your reports yesterday.   Trust you had a safe journey home and enjoyed a nice glass of wine while toasting your toes :-)  Apart from weather, you appeared to have had a great time seeing the family.    Also thanks for enquiring at the VC about the visitor - hopefully they can shed some further light on its identity.

Scrolling back, it would seem no late supper and nothing on the nest but 33 was off fishing first thing!!

04:47   33 arrives with breakfish - Maya and chicks are up and waiting!

    feed gets underway

    06:34  more fish of offer

07:42  33 arrives and eats from the fish at the back of the nest

08:02  33 flies off after eating and Maya offers more fish

08:37  (present)    Maya stands watch over the chicks

Off now - catch up later

  • Morning Karen and All
Thank you for your updates this morning sat up until dark watching to see if 33 brought in a fish but you're right he didn't :-( Good to see an early one appeared of good size to feed them all.
Observations are saying 33 needs to switch up a gear now the chicks are so big there is no fish being left now on the nest! Maya's body language is also asking for him to step up and bring in more!
Thank you Karen we did have a glass of wine and it's good to get warmed up.
We leave today and weather much better so hopefully we'll see more flying than we have done last couple of days.... We'll be there for half a day though so will be exciting to see if the mystery bird has reappeared?
Thank you Sandra pleased you also enjoyed the reports and it's a pleasure to share the sightings with you all!
Apologies for a couple of words spelt wrong..... Predictive text didn't mean to say damn and bum should have been 'dam' and 'bump'..... Perhaps too many glasses of wine but hadn't had any at that time :-) :-) :-)
  • The mystery osprey is BACK!! Sat in same low tree! 33 just flown over it to check it out..... No aggression shown whatsoever! Marsh Harrier buzzed the mystery osprey osprey and another Marsh Harrier sat in tree behind 33s normal perch !
    33 out flying in bay!
  • 33 bringing in more rails and Maya has filled in the nest cup this morning and can see chicks clearly now when they stand up!
  • Thanks for all reports and LAM thanks for letting us know where Maya is finding that funny wood
The nest is looking pretty crowded One chick preening Another resting but awake and the third is awake too......right underneath Maya's tail At one point it had a nibble at her bottom feathers whilst Maya was having a preen LOL!
  • 33 possibly away fishing not seen him for 15 minutes or so now. The other osprey had a quick circuit in the bay and headed off backwards direction like yesterday! Pity 33 wasn't here as would have been interesting to see his reaction although the other bird is keeping well away from the nest! Seeing it in flight confirms it is an osprey at least! Wonder if it will stay in the bay all season! Gosh we'll have to get back again soon! What a shame lol!
  • You're welcome Patily

Perhaps the wood is dried reeds that she is collecting for the rails!

33 eating the fish on the fallen popular tree!

    Then brought to nest!

  • Maya was eating from what looked like a large freah fish for a while and then the 2 older chicks noticed and rolled up for a feed which is going on now The smallest chick doesn'tappear to be interested............pottering and looking over the edge of the nest at the back
