And now 33 has brought in a stick to block our view!!!
33 creeps around the tail of Maya, and takes the fish off the nest.
14.23 Maya gets up and drags the fish from the cup. At the same time 33 returned with the earlier fish which had no takers. There is a surfeit of fish!
The wee chick continues to move a little
Edit: whew - Maya finished feeding and settled, I think, on the wee chick and the egg, buut only partially on the strong chick which was on the far side, near the tail of the troublesome fish. Maya isn't settled, has another go and I think the strong chick is under, but on the edge of her further (right) side.
14.35 and now it's raining heavily.
Hi everyone - thanks for all the updates.
I'm just back and devastated but not all that surprised as I knew when I left this morning the situation was bleak but we can only hope.
imo, I don't think there is anything wrong with Maya other than being extremely cold, wet and most likely cramped as she has not had a break.
Weather is to improve (and I hope it does) a little around 16:00 and hopefully we will then see whats what
Fingers crossed than when we are told that the chicks are tougher than we think that this pair are!!
Maya will be wanting to get up and have a good shake and stretch!
but head down to protect the chicks and egg -
for her sake, I hope her effort is not in vain
