I think this will be an interesting season at Loch Arkaig - who is going to take residence is the big question?
For me it doesn't matter who, just as long as the nest is occupied.

Flight of the Osprey update: Sacha Dench, the UN Ambassador for the Convention on Migratory Species, set off with eight intrepid fellow adventurers yesterday to follow the Flight of the Osprey (#FOTO). They'll be travelling overland in three vehicles from Scotland down to Rutland, Dyfi and Poole Harbour among other Osprey sites, then across to France, down through Spain and Portugal, across to Morocco, and then all the way down the coast of west Africa, crossing many borders travelling the migration route along the East Atlantic Flyway. Probably the same one taken by our Ospreys - Rannmoch JJ2 was sighted in Senegal, in an area they'll be travelling through. They will be following four satellite -tagged birds - Rutland's adult male Blue 4K, and three juveniles from Tweed Valley, ringed and tagged a couple of weeks ago - all male, Darvic rings 706,707 and 708. The expedition team will be highlighting the hazards faced by the Ospreys like habitat degradation and loss, plastic pollution, hunting, and the effects of climate change. BBC Radio 4 will be broadcasting a ten part series, I'll post links when I know the dates, and the press were in attendance for the Grand Depart, news items filed in print, on radio and TV. Sacha is known as the Human Swan. She followed alongside the swans in a paramotor from the Russian Steppes to the UK. She won’t be doing that this time, it’s too far and it’s not possible to fly alongside Ospreys as they fly solo not in flocks. Plus she is still recovering from serious injury sustained in a terrible accident last year. However, she’s also a champion Freediver, and she’ll be doing a lot of underwater recording of plastic pollution and the state of the sea grasses and sea bed along the route. Good luck to them - it's quite an undertaking. Link to my latest blog for the Flight of the Osprey is about Ospreys being rescued. A happier topic than my last, which was about Ospreys affected and sometimes killed because of plastic pollution.

16.24.40 fish number one, finally! After an unusually long absence, Louis delivers a nice big whole BT
Sarafina takes it, Willow grabs Louis’ foot in error and is dragged off the nest as he departs.

How lovely, Louis getting his own songs! I especially liked the second, “You don’t mess around with Louis!” Lol
