CAPTIVA OSPREYS - Andy & Lena

I'd been posting in "Forum Friends", here's a snap brought over, for the sake of starting this thread with something!

  • I reported that I had a video showing Harriet laying egg #1 on 12 November a few years ago - well, I've just seen reported on Hancock that last year it was 20 November, so she's not yet late, especially taking into account the complete nest rebuild Blush

Chat saying we're on egg watch. No-one on the nest just now

  • SW Florida cams went down @ 17:10 local time.  One eagle was 'resting' on a branch, the other was bringing in soft nest material.  The Hancock forums are completely down.  I had approx 550 failed download files to delete Confounded

  • Scream          oo dear. So sorry Scylla

Nice capture of the tree and eagles though

  • 550 failed downloads to deal with - poor Scylla! When Flight Of the Osprey expedition ends in a few weeks, I'm taking time off from inputs and deadlines for a while. It'll soon be March and we'll be awaiting our returnees. But you never take time off, do you? You cover nests all through the year. How do you do it?! Superwoman Scylla!

  • Here's Episode Five of Flight of the Ospreys on BBC Radio 4 broadcast this morning. Youtube link for those unable to access BBC Sounds. This episode includes the amazing story of Glen the hitch-a-ride Osprey who's still in Galicia in the north of Spain staying in a very small area. Local photographers will be out looking for him this weekend if the weather clears as forecast.

FOTO team are now in Guinea, and will be looking for the other tagged bird, Rutland's Blue 4K, as soon as they get to his area in the Pongo River estuary. The expedition is due to end in Ghana in a few days time.

As you should know, Geemeff, I don't have another life and I fill the off-season with trivia compared to your contributions! Hugging

SW Florida cams are back up, here's their channel.

  • Great captures, thanks Scylla

  • #FOTO news - Glen gave us a real scare by suddenly leaving Spain and heading south into Portugal - straight to Aveiro Lagoon where his brother Tweed was predated by a goshawk which are numerous in that area. But fortunately he spent little time there, arriving last night and departing sometime in the wee hours.

This morning's downloads at 03.13 UK time (05.13 UTC+2) and 07.13 UK (09.13) show he left the lagoon and carried on south. Data shows he was perching on the roof of a huge fruit packing plant!. I've emailed them to see if anyone spotted him, but no reply as yet.

  • NE Florida - Resident "Red-bellied Woodpecker wouldn't keep still for the camera!":
