CAPTIVA OSPREYS - Andy & Lena
I'd been posting in "Forum Friends", here's a snap brought over, for the sake of starting this thread with something!
IMAGICAT
I've been very neglectful recently. Here's a not very interesting overnight snap of Harriet, to remind me she has 2 eggs, laid on 29 November and 2 December, and all is well so far

Well, thank you for that Korky, not at all uninteresting ! and I like happy endings so here's to a third egg , successful fledges and a faithful couple.
Gabby did indeed do a wonderful fly in and as for the 'snaps' , well, just , WOW
and thank you very much Scylla.
I shall send one of two of these to Zilpha (who sadly is not doing too well)
Lovely video, Bart , many thanks
NE Florida Bald Eagles
Samson is still missing. Tint-headed male V2 has been supplanted by a standard model V3 but Gabrielle hasn't adjusted to him yet - and maybe V2 will be back - I hope so, as I find him more attractive - and, more to the point, identifiable
AEF (American Eagle Foundation) must have been inundated with unanswerable questions, as one of their staffers published this:
sharipf_AEF Today at 8:20 PM There is a lot of speculation going on right now about what is happening at NEFL. Everyone watching knows pretty much everything we know. We have identified this eagle as V3 - we believe V3 is a male because it is highly unlikely Gabby would allow a female in her nest. Why is she not at the nest tonight? We don't know. Are we concerned? No. We bby that we have seen on cams. It took a few days for Gabby to warm up to V2. Perhaps that is what is going on here. We are only observers - same as all of you - so we have pulled up a chair, we have a bowl of popcorn and we are watching to see what the cams reveal.(
10/11 overnight, V3 spent the night in the nest tree. He seemed to get wind of Gabrielle in the area and flew off looking for her, and soon followed her in. Anthropomorphising, she seems to be pining for Samson and isn't as ready to accept V3 as she was V2, but V3 seems very patient and isn't going to push it.
V3 retreating:

V3 has been in looking fo Gabby twice:
It’s official! Flight of the Osprey expedition has ended! The team have arrived back in the UK. A movie will come out in the spring, meantime the BBC R4 series continues tomorrow (Tuesday) at 09.30 UTC with episode 8 of ten.

Here's the link to today's R4 Flight of the Ospreys broadcast - imagine going to work to feed your family and discovering a great big development has taken away your vegetable plot! Likewise, a bird exhausted after a long flight from the last watering hole arriving at their regular stop to find a tourist resort being built! Today's episode is thought-provoking as always, ending with a little cliff-hanger..
Episode 8:
Just can't listen .I'd want to rent a huge wrecking ball and level all the buildings to the ground. I'm so upset
8pm tonight: Facebook live Q&A with Sacha Dench, Tim Mackrill and Simon Curtin of Belvoir Osprey project, home of satellite-tagged adult male Blue 4K. The presentation will cover Flight of the Osprey’s expedition to 4K’s winter home in Guinea, and answer the question of whether or not the team was able to see him.
8pm GMT (UTC) tonight 19th December:https://m.facebook.com/conservation.without.borders
Morning! Here's the link for last night's Conservation Without Borders Facebook Live with Sacha Dench, Tim Mackrill, and Belvoir Ospreys project Simon Curtin about the hunt for Blue 4K, now available on YouTube (which is better for people like me who're not on FB).
It's quite an adventure! Simon provides the background, and Tim briefly discusses the merits of tracking before Sacha gets into the details of the actual search for one bird in a huge mangrove delta against the background of incredulous locals, world cup football, and a nasty little beetle.
Episode 9 of Flight of the Osprey airs on BBC Radio 4 today, I'll send the link as soon as it's ready.
Glen's still in the same place in Morocco, happily fishing and roosting. I'm still tracking him several times daily, and will let you know if anything changes.
