HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY NEW MOON!The moon turns new on Monday, 6 September, or Tuesday, 7 September, depending on your location.
I hope everyone has a happy week full of joy and love!(Happy Labor Day to Annette and bjane!)
Morning all:
Diane: I must join the chorus of happy sighs that the state finally came through for you and that you also got a new assignment. And yes, what a coincidence that your car (faithful friend) hung on until the very end. :-) That's amazing, but then again, these things happen! Do you have a good mechanic who can check out any new-to-you vehicle? And of course, there's Carfax online, where you can find the registration and accident history of any vehicle (though not always the complete maintenance records) Good luck shopping for your new wheels. How are you getting around in the meantime? And by the way, how's that ancient Auntie of yours?
SunnyKate2: It's posters like you who slow down my mornings with fascinating links that I have to click on and then read, only to end up down archeological/geologic rabbit holes, in this case about Darmoor. :-)) I gather they're closing that prison in a couple of years..
bjane: Always good to see you pop in. Do you mind me asking how your daughter is these days?
CC: When I lived in LA I used to listen to Star Date on NPR - a brief daily heads up about the night sky that originated from the McDonald Observatory at the University of Texas in Austin. We don't get it on the NPR station here in Santa Barbara but I do hear it on the Flagstaff NPR station when I'm visiting family in Prescott Valley (the Lowell Observatory is in Flagstaff). I'm going to do a SunnyKate and provide the link. :-) https://stardate.org/, When I was a regular listener, the presenter was Sandy Wood who apparently retired in 2019 after 28 years. She had a lovely voice.
Harelady: Welcome home and have a good night's sleep.
PatO: Safe travels! Hope the weather is kind and the traffic flows smoothly.
AQ: My down-to-earth-be-grateful-for-what-we've-got neighbor (who grew up in East Germany in the bad old days) allowed that she was experiencing a general down-in-the-dumps mood of late. Me too, plus some other of my friends. I think it's the continuing avalanche of distressing news followed by more distressing news. My OH and I stumbled upon Downton Abbey on Netflix the other night (we've only watched it four times!), but turned it on just to avoid the evening news during dinner. As the opening scene appeared, I sighed, "Ah the good old days, when Downton Abbey was new, Obama was in the White House, and we thought the country was finally heading in the right direction...." :-))
Meanwhile, in California we have this incredibly stupid and expensive election on September 14 aimed at recalling Governor Gavin Newsom (Democrat). It's supported by all the anti-vaxers/anti-mask types (need I say more) His main opponent is a loony rightwinger with zero qualifications. The polls are in Newsom's favor, but I'm not taking anything for granted and am off to deliver my ballot to the election office.
Take care all.
Time to celebrate! You know how water can wear away stone. . . daughters can have the same effect on father. Both girls urged their father on Fathers Day phone call to get vaccinated. It worked! (Did any of my urging have any effect? Maybe?) Anyway this morn I discovered that our local tiny chemist is now giving jabs. OH agreed, if I did the online booking. First available appt 10.30 am, he said yes, I booked him. I then booked second in Dec. He insisted on walking down to chemist. I rushed off early to do my food shop (at a bigger supermarket complex) and was back in time to drive him home. Advantages of shopping early – plenty of car parks, few customers. Disadvantages – horrid traffic (drivers late for work, parents delivering kids to school).
Just a thought

Fantastic news. You must all be so relieved!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Morning all: Assume most in the UK have been enjoying the sunshine. Meanwhile, we have fog this morning but sunny after 10 a.m.
AQ; That's brilliant. Bravo to the daughters.
Lindybird: Ugh, sounds like nephew has a complicated recovery ahead....
Going to lunch (an outside restaurant!) with friend today. It's in Carpinteria down the coast a bit with a pretty patio full of with succulents in pots. Take care everyone.
