25.10.21 - LR2 still in Southern Spain
As the 2021 Osprey season at Loch of the Lowes enters its final stage, it is reassuring to know how very well LR1 and LR2 are faring in the build-up to their first migration. Laddie (LM12) and NC0 (who, it is thought, will soon start her long journey south) are continuing to provide for, and protect, these wonderful (and loud!), young juveniles. Last month, it was fantastic to see the confidence in both LR1 and LR2 when they took to the sky for the first time, as well as watching them practise their spectacular diving skills into the Loch - sights to behold! With only a short number of precious weeks that we have remaining viewing Laddie, NC0 and their family on the webcam, let us hope everything continues to go well.
Fish delivered by Laddie to LR2 at 10:00
He started to tuck in
Then took it off to the middle branch of the birch
No sightings of LR1 (86 days old) as yet

10:50 Laddie onto the nest with what appeared to be a headless fish. Lots of screeching from above the cam
LR2 flapped down from above the cam in an attempt to take it...Laddie flew off with the fish!
LR2 pecked around on the nest then paused before heading off to the far left branch of the birch
12:07 ENS since then (apart from a scavenging corvid)
I wonder where LR1 is?
Ahh, this looks like her. Two flew from the birch - one (LR1***, I think) on the perch, the other above the cam (LR in flight, top centre, had flown under the nest - this is it flying back round to land above the nest)
Took flight
13:09 Both can he heard shouting...one above the cam, one on the birch. Looks like an adult on NC0's branch
***Edit - it was LR2 on the perch, see next post

13:26 Fish delivery by Laddie. LR1 flapped down to the nest to claim it
Both birds who were on the birch, flew off - the one on NC0's branch appeared to fly in the direction to the opposite side of the Loch from the birch (went out of cam view), LR2 came to the nest
She ate for a little while before heading off to the birch
LR2 remained on the nest/perch fish calling until he left at 13:55
There was a major tussle between LR1 and LR2 for a 17:30ish headless fish delivery by NC0
LR1 (left) and LR2 preparing to receive NC0's fish
LR2 got to it first
LR1 then tried any which way she could to get to the fish
LR2 still had his talons in the fish as LR1 was pulling it away from him
I thought she'd taken it at this point...
...but apparently not
LR1 launched an attack on LR2 which made him loosen his grip on the fish
Then raised her wings to threaten him again - he stumbled back
She began eating her hard fought for fish
A little later before she took it off nest
