25.10.21 - LR2 still in Southern Spain
As the 2021 Osprey season at Loch of the Lowes enters its final stage, it is reassuring to know how very well LR1 and LR2 are faring in the build-up to their first migration. Laddie (LM12) and NC0 (who, it is thought, will soon start her long journey south) are continuing to provide for, and protect, these wonderful (and loud!), young juveniles. Last month, it was fantastic to see the confidence in both LR1 and LR2 when they took to the sky for the first time, as well as watching them practise their spectacular diving skills into the Loch - sights to behold! With only a short number of precious weeks that we have remaining viewing Laddie, NC0 and their family on the webcam, let us hope everything continues to go well.
Good grief, two more! 16:09 NC0 to LR1
Please catch yourself a fish, NC0!!
16:14 Laddie to LR2
LR2 pulled at Laddie's talons...again!
Success this time

17:22 A headless fish delivery from NC0 - LR1 took it, and was quite ungrateful as she shooed her mum off the nest!
NC0 dared to look at the fish
LR1 shooed her away
A tug-o'-fish took place...LR2 succeeded in taking it from LR1. She had to settle for a piece of skin that had dropped onto the nest during the melee
LR1 did attempt to steal back a short while after but was flapped away by LR2
Cam zoomed in
18:06 Fish eaten
Oh dear! At 20:00 Laddie delivered a live fish. LR1 tried to grab hold of it before, and after, Laddie lifted his talons but it flapped its way over the front edge of the nest!
LR2 inbound (left)
LR2 left the nest shortly after. LR1 stayed, fish calling, until finally leaving at 20:47
20:45
Moments before her flight away
Unfortunately, due to the cam not being panned out completely, I'm unable to state whether or not she landed on the birch
LR1 came back at 20:51, she flapped down to the nest from above the cam. She spent most of her time fish calling
She left at 20:57ish and headed to the birch
21:18 LR1 can still be heard shouting
21:29 LR1 back on the nest again! I'm pretty sure there was chipping/alarm calling in the distance
She stayed for less than 30 seconds before heading off again
20:35 More alarm calling
20:37 Silent
Morning all LR1 was first to arrive at 4:30
LR2 joined her on the perch half an hour later
6:25 She was in prime position on the nest to claim Laddie's live fish delivery
She took it off nest
LR2, at present, is on the nest waiting/calling for his breakfish
8:40 Laddie delivered a live fish to LR2 - it was too lively, LR2 couldn't grab it and it went over the front edge of the nest!
LR2 grabbed Laddie's talons which released the fish
Fish going over
LR2 took his frustration out on a corvid that flew onto the perch
