As the 2021 Osprey season at Loch of the Lowes enters its final stage, it is reassuring to know how very well LR1 and LR2 are faring in the build-up to their first migration. Laddie (LM12) and NC0 (who, it is thought, will soon start her long journey south) are continuing to provide for, and protect, these wonderful (and loud!), young juveniles. Last month, it was fantastic to see the confidence in both LR1 and LR2 when they took to the sky for the first time, as well as watching them practise their spectacular diving skills into the Loch - sights to behold! With only a short number of precious weeks that we have remaining viewing Laddie, NC0 and their family on the webcam, let us hope everything continues to go well.

Great capture of the dropped fish Sandra!

    Thanks Wendy

  • Morning all,
7:40 Just switched on to see Laddie deliver a headless fish to LR1 (she was alone on the nest at the time)

    LR2 flew in

She flew off with it to the birch when LR2 approached

  • Checking back, it wasn't LR1's first breakfish, Laddie delivered one to an empty nest just after 5am. She came onto the nest, flying from the birch to claim it

When Laddie left, LR2 flew past him to land on the perch (LR2 inbound, right)

Off she went to the birch

  • Zoomed-in clip of LR1 dropping her fish last night - you can hear the splash! Poor NC0, wasted work, but it was Laddie's turn earlier, on the 4th, to have his fish go overboard.

  • Here's dad's fish being lost on 4th August

  • Hi Geemeff, thank you so much for the videos!  Thumbsup

Edit - LR2 lost his fish over the side the next morning (5.8.21) - another one of Laddie's 'live' deliveries

  • LR2 received a small fish from Laddie at 9:37ish

Laddie's talons got pulled, fish on the nest

LR2 picked it up in his beak

    Laddie left the nest

LR2 stayed to eat his meal - it didn't take him long to finish

  • 14:00 Two fish deliveries in the space of a few minutes - both by Laddie
First small live fish was taken by LR2

The second fish was caught by Laddie after backtracking on his flight away from the nest! Laddie had gone out of view, far left, but flew back round over the left side of the nest

    Coming back round

His approach to the dive (far left)

Splashdown was behind the tree area. He could be seen for a split second

He took his catch over to the birch area

Laddie delivered it, a whopper, a short time after.and was claimed by LR1... LR2 was still tucking into his one

    Both enjoying their fish

Around 14:45, LR2 attempted a steal but was unsuccessful

At time of posting, LR1 is still on the nest with her fish, LR2 calling for another meal

  • 16:04 LR1 is still tucking in two hours after receiving her fish!

There is still a lot of fish remaining so do hope that when LR1's had enough, she leaves it on the nest for LR2 and not take it away

  • 16:11 A successful steal by LR2 after 3 attempts this time!

He was stopped in his tracks to eat his fish when there was an unseen intrusion. Both alarm called and mantled

LR1 flew from the nest when that threat was over

    LR2 tucked in!
