Arrival dates: Laddie - 21st March   NC0 - 25th March

Three eggs laid: Egg #1 - 11.4.21  Egg #2 - 14.4.21  Egg #3 - 17.4.21

Hatch dates: Chick 1 - 18.5.21 (37 days)  Chick 2 - 20.5.21 (36 days)  Chick 3 - 22.5.21 (35 days)

25.5.21 - Third chick passed away Broken heart 

22.6.21 - Chicks ringed: #1 - LR1 (female)  #2 - LR2 (male)

Last month, we saw all three chicks hatch but unfortunately, the third one very sadly passed away after surviving for just over two full days. Laddie and NC0 continue to nurture their two remaining chicks. Long may the good weather, as well as Laddie’s effective hunting, persist so we can continue to watch these wonderful osplets thrive.

    Morning all,
    Laddie delivered a headless fish around 5:10 and, from what I can tell when scrolling through to the present time, the chicks had a couple of feeds from it

    11:08 A headless fish delivery from Laddie. On landing he began to chip, stood around for a short while then took flight.


    Chick 1 approached the fish and pecked at it, then NC0's talons.

    During the feed, chick 1 picked up a dropped morsel of fish and ate it

    11:24 "No more but thanks for offering, mum"

    Been watching for quite some time Laddie was on the nest watching NC0 putting more fish into #1 #2 was chunterring away to itself at the front of the nest.After a while s/he came round the side of their sibling who promptly turned on it The poor thing went into submission for a fair while Laddie had already flown off and NC0 went back to feeding #1 After a while #2 got up and because #1 had wandered offNC0 started giving #2 some extra pieces of fish They must have got at least 6 pieces but cam kept stalling so difficult to see In its wanderings #1 found its sibling again and attacked it again Not reaaly fiercely but #2 went into submission again #1 continued to wander but NC0 was still trying to pack more food into it Then it rested down #2 was standing up again next to mum and got another couple of pieces but I think it didn't really need./want it and I left NC0 feeding herself

    That's strange behaviour from #1 as there hasn't been any of that for quite a while. Thanks Patily.

    From 19:20-19:30ish. A Tale of Two Sticks...

    Laddie delivered a thin(ish) 'Y' shaped stick to the nest, he placed it on NC0's back.

    NC0 decided to put it in a better place

    It then fell off the edge. Laddie's expression! lol

    Off he went and, a few minutes later, came back with a thicker and longer stick

    NC0 had to move her head out of the way while Laddie attempted to move it

    NC0 decided to help him out

    He left the nest. NC0 wasn't happy with the stick's placement so went back to it a couple of times

    Finally, she tapped it with her beak and it rolled over to sit on the edge on the nest (arrowed)

    I wonder if Laddie will look for it when he returns?! lol

    There was a different camera angle at 18:40 - amazing to see the depth of the nest that has been built up over the years
