A bit shivery here today, expecting 20 C max again. I’m not complaining. A quiet day for me. Yesterday I helped Dau2 washing, wiping, cleaning, etc as per her list. G-kids did minimum possible. Brats. After lunch Dau & Sil went shopping while I guarded the fort. I think they were out longer than necessary but I don’t begrudge them that. The brats are really rude & unhelpful. GS greeted me with "what are you doing here?" Hello and nice to see you too! They spoke to their mother on Skype - what a lot of complaining & false info. Grumbling that Sil put passwords on computers. Well Miss14 did abuse the privilege. She is proud of doing badly in final exams. Alas these days kids don’t repeat a year at school. It seems it is more important to stay with peer group than to acquire knowledge. I just don’t understand them. Sorry. Rant over. I’ll go and read Linda’s answers again to put me in a better mood with some giggles.
LINDY so glad you managed to visit new baby. Shame the Christmas concert was so quiet, due to the weather I guess. Church here was v quiet last week and same again tomorrow I expect, though it is a "bring and share" and usually busy. We were meant to help at a "great big free Give away" today but OH is under the weather. He has a heavy cold and his eyes are streaming and stinging so don't think we are going anywhere apart from OH doing the obligatory dog walk.

Good morning Lindybird you have reduced me to tears yet again. Lovely words for Tomasz. Glad you managed to have the cuddle which you must have been longing to have since his birth. Glad to hear Mum, Dad and little one are doing OK. Shame about your carol concert perhaps weather has put people off.
Good morning to all and what a change in the weather. The good news is that the snow has just about gone, the bad news is that it has been replaced by black ice. Trod very carefully when feeding the birds this morning. Bird baths defrosted and refilled and sparrows and starlings making full use of the facility again. It rained quite heavily, started about 8 last evening and went on through the night. Have seen a fieldfare in the garden this morning so have put some apple out. Billy Whizz must have had an awful night bless him but he has been for a feed and some milk this morning. He likes to have a wash after eating and I managed to watch him in the drive without spooking him.
OH out shopping and bless him he has found me a new jacket. I was gutted to find that one of my favourite warm jacket had a stain on it after we returned from London and despite using Vanish and washing several times it hasn't come out. I liked it because it was so light to wear but very warm. The new one will cover my behind as well so should be nice and warm with the fake fur round the hood.
Hope you are all keeping warm and safe, we are not going up to London tomorrow. I just can't manage he cold, it actually makes me feel quite ill. Will have to watch the Veterans Tennis on TV. It will be quite chilly in the Albert Hall as they have the air conditioning on to cool the players down. We learned our lesson the first time we went 3 years ago as we got absolutely frozen. The last 2 years we had more clothes on so didn't get so cold.
Thanks for the links and all the news. Must go now and prepare a bit of lunch for my wonderful OH who has spent so much time this morning looking for that jacket. Have a good day and evening.

Much milder here today ... above freezing and the snow is thawing slightly, thank goodness. Took my car out this morning for the first time in over a week. Once you get out of our Square and along road at the back, it is much easier. OH went with me .... he has been telling me the roads were ok for a few days, but I didn't believe him! He has a 4-wheel drive, so fares much better!
Linda - must just say I am so glad you got to see baby and family yesterday ... and I'm sure you took lots of photos!

Slow thaw going on here at the moment and the temp has risen slightly. Everywhere is mucky and slushy now. This morning we went on a shopping mission to the Orton centre in Peterborough. Thought we might see some waxwings as they have been reported near there recently but no joy. We then went to Elton for some nice hot leek and potato soup, Not very busy there but quite a lot of people buying 'real' Christmas trees.
Watched I'm a celebrity last night and thought that Shaun Ryder was really funny with the flat pack task, I could really empathise with him when he took a hammer to the parts and then threw them on the fire. Definitely DIY (Destroy It Yourself) Hilarious.

Woke up early and decided to call my sister in Lincoln but found an e-mail saying they're able to get into town to do Christmas shopping, so we'll talk tomorrow. In the meantime, got the following from niece in Newport Pagnell:
A man in Scotland calls his son in London the day before Christmas Eve and says, "I hate to ruin your day but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough".'"Dad, what are you talking about?'" the son exclaims."We can't stand the sight of each other any longer", the father says. "We're sick of each other and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Leeds and tell her". Frantically, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone, "Like hell they're getting divorced", she shrieks, "I'll take care of this". She calls Scotland immediately and tells her father, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up. The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Done! They're coming for Christmas - and they're paying their own way."

Hi folks just been into town this morning - firstly to sort out a bank account of our daughters and then finish off the Christmas shopping. Feet and body really felt it!!!!
Thawing here with temperature up to 8 degrees - mini heatwave!!
Going to treat ourselves tonight with a Chinese whilst OH has his pie and chips. Son and wife have gone down to London today to see Les Miserables (birthday present from us to him). He actually rang us from the bar at the theatre so trust he will enjoy it, they are then going on for a meal at a Michelin starred resteraunt but not sure which one.

RSPB Giving Nature a Home
Safe home – no probs on roads and thaw continued till about 4;30pm. Looks very snowy over the water – but we do see the north-faces of the Cumbrian hills. Usual procedure at hospital, “How are you doing?” “Fine.” “That’s good” - but good to know my machine was checked over in the next room, and I have collected spare parts to see me through another 2 years. Shopping mission was successful but slow, being a December Saturday plus people out shopping for the first time after keeping off roads – however, better than making a separate trip mid-week. After unpacking shopping plus parcel delivered to doorstep and sorting stuff for freezer, I am rather tired, so OH told me to sit in the study while he prepares dinner.
Lindy – so pleased Sweetpea opened his eyes for you and you got a cuddle – but what a journey for one hour with them! Sounds like a very busy day with evening activities too.
Dibnlib – sorry your OH’s cold is still so bad – I hope Dillon’s walking requirements are not too demanding. Aged Uncle phoned yesterday – his dog is so well trained that she won’t soil the garden. He’s been forbidden to go out for walks in snow and ice, so he sounded quite upset when he said he doesn’t know what to do “because she won’t poop!” He tried walking her round the garden in the hope she would relax, but nothing happened, and he got just as cold as if he had taken her for a real walk.
Margo – pleased you are being sensible about tomorrow’s trip to London – essential journeys only is my outlook in wintry weather.
