Morning/evening all: Off to catch up on today's posts.
Hi Annette I was so pleased to read that I am not the only one that goes to bed with fluffy socks on. I only usually do that when OH is away as his side of the bed always feels cold without him in it. Mind you we are set for some very cold weather for the next week and I suspect I will do it again. OH is away overnight next Monday so I will definitely be wearing the fluffy socks then.
I thought perhaps I should be a personal shopper at Christmas. In my family we always ask for lots of ideas re Christmas presents so have a good idea of what I am getting before we do our shop. It just means that I have to send my sister off for a while while I get her presents and then hide them in another shop's carrier bags so she doesn't know what shops I have been in. She then goes and does the same thing. It is a relief to know that apart from a couple of minor things I won't have to go to the shops many more times. I am not good in crowds so my visits to town will be few until after Christmas.
Have a good day when it arrives.
Margobird
Good morning Brenda H and as I have just said to Annette perhaps I should offer my services as a personal shopper when Christmas comes around. I think my Army training made me organised and I always have a good idea of what I am going to get before I go. Amongst the family we always ask for quite a few ideas from each and I pick out what I am going to get. It does help a lot if you know what you are going for. I agree if is difficult to buy birthday presents at this time of the year. OH's birthday is Saturday but have finally got all I wanted to get for him. He is very into books and there are always a couple at least that I can get for him. the show we are going to on Saturday is part of his birthday present so that made things easier as well. It is even worse for him when it comes to my birthday as it is on Boxing Day.
Hi margo - I'm now trying not to worry, as I heard on the radio that the road my son takes to work has been very choked up this morning, and people have been stuck for hours! Fortunately its in the opposite direction from their route to the hospital where baby is due to be born, if we have any dramas today.
BrendaH Yes I am up just thought a bit of hibernation would be good but it didn't work and I got bored very quicky.
At this point nobody is to laugh but I have just come in from doing a spot of gardening yes gardening in the snow. My Corderlines are booked into my friends greenhouse for the winter but as of thismorning they were still in thie tubs. So now in the garage drying off the snow on them and got rid of spent compost. Whilst out there it was snowing and at the same time 2 flashes of lightening and 2 enormous rumbles of thunder..well that's scottish weather for you.
Lindybird Yes loving my computer all so shiny and new. Enjoy your new cooker...I was treated to a new one in Feb. electric with no knobs and so many features I haven't used them all yet. OH questioned me on this and like everything they might come in handy one day...maybe.
Annette At least the fieldmouse would have passed away in a very happy stuffed state.
The Macallan treat for me was with a group of American husbands and wives being hosted by a scottish golfer. One of the ladies mentioned during our nosing and tasting about this 1 she was treated to by her host at Gleneagles and had I tried it..my reply was in my dreams. The main noser woked next to our presentation room and I mentioned the ladies experience to Bob who produced a glass of said nectar. The lady offered it to me but I pointed out I was not allowed to drink on duty. Bob winked..enough said. She then asked to take the glass with her so that she get all the aromas.
Tiger Nice to try whiskies from all regions and I like speysides as they are more gentle on the palate and sometimes I like sherry matured and sometimes bourbon casks it's a bit like wine you don't want the same one all of the time. Your Swiss friend was not alone as europeans love there whisky. Spent many an our with the Fins, Danes ,Dutch andNorwegians...they come to scotland to worship!!
Yes whisky does have strange effect on people...Simon's proposal many years ago involved a bottle of Glenmorangie
LizFW What an awesome view you must have. Yellow helis pass over us quite often coming out of Lossie or Kinloss( well for the time being anyway) and the usual comment is who's fallen off now (the Cairngorms that is)
Worked at The Glenlivet for 2 years and then at Aberlour for 2 more. Retired for a year and got bored and was asked to go to Macallan but I then realised I missed the things that I was able to do the year I had out,
Oh dear Lindybird you could do without this added stress. As you say it is fortunate it is the opposite direction to the hospital but I hope your son gets through it soon.
Afternoon all,
A warm welcome to osprey. You cant go far wrong with a name like that in this group.
Tiger : Thanks for the link to the APOD. Amazing clip.
Not all that keen on whisky or usquebae. I can take it or leave it.
Thanks to everyone else for their chat. Too many to reply to individually.
Went on a food shopping mission to Tesco this morning. It was manic. Recession? What recession? Weather is cold with early frost. Sun has gone now and clouds are gathering.
wendyb: I guess you will recognize this pic:
.
For those of you interested in the black bears, Gordon Buchanan has just tweeted“Looks like we’ve got a transmission date for the Black Bear series. 5th of Jan 2011″
Lovely pic Alan will have to wait for wendyb to identify it.
For all Lily and Hope fans Gordon Buchanan's series about black bears is scheduled for 5 January and of course it will feature Lily and Hope. Really looking forward to this.
Ha ha Alan you must have been typing this at the same time as me - SNAP.
Hi all and greetings from very wintry Finland. We got few cms snow last Thu and been under 0C since. But it really started to snow yesterday evening and been snowing since, must be near 15cm now. Temp is -5 but very, very windy so it feels like -14 *sigh* and ‘promised‘ to get colder *double sigh*. I am quite used to drive in wintry conditions but boy was it nasty today when driving home from work! That constant snowing makes roads really slippery and ‘bumpy’ and visibility was.. Well, not so great. Hoped Gary would have been in front of me with his new toy LOL But here I am in one piece and so is my tiny car although when I was backing from the parking spot and getting ready to go forward, someone from the opposite spot backed straight to my car’s rear end! Thank heavens I wasn’t moving at the time and she was coming very slowly, no visible harm done, but her excuse was ‘I wasn’t looking’ hello - shouldn’t you watch where you are going? Well, enough of me moaning and back to read ‘bout your doings
Sheila, thank you so much about that book info!!
Patricia, well done you and Tweed!
Jsb, absolutely great flamingo pic
Diane and Annette, love your new avatars. And Diane, thinking of you and your dad
OG, great photos once again
Lindybird, excellent poem!!!
Gary, Clover looks beautiful in that pic (or is it Lida…?) Edit, OK just read that she is Clover, so waiting now a pic about Lida too LOL
Margo, glad Rhys’ visit went well
Tiger, absolutely fine picture of Aurora Borealis! Haven’t seen them ‘live’ for a couple years now. They can sometimes be seen even here (south-ish) if the conditions are right. If I remember correctly there haven’t been enough activity or something in the sun (sunspots???) recently, hence the ‘lame’ Aurora Borealis. There is some Finnish folks-tale that says they are made by a magical fox which sweeps the sky with it’s tail and their common name can be translated ‘fox’s fire’
Hi to osprey, nice to see you posting here
And hullo to everyone I haven’t mentioned, do take care and ‘see ya’
