Evening/Morning all: Off to check out recent posts.

  • Ah now that doesn't surprise me at all Wendy. Are there still plenty of people getting married at Gretna on other days of the year? Edit I now see they do.

Aww I didn't know the significance of three stones in a row. How lovely :)

  • PATRICIAT  Not attempting stairs after reading SUE Cs story (she added a broken wrist to her other injuries) so I am going down the ever so cautious route!

WENDY  a friend had a Bassett Hound who was sadly put to sleep at the start of the year - she had pancreatitis and nothing could be done. Had to laugh when they got her as friends OH wanted to call her "Kylie" a poodle maybe but cannot imagine anything more inappropriate for a Bassett, anyhow they saw sense and she was named "Phoebe"  They still have their 2 Boxers i am glad to say and though they loved Phoebe to pieces I don't think another Bassett is on the cards.

  • Dibnlib  Grace is of the same opinion they love him to bits but with his slobbery mouth patio windows and kitchen cupboards are for ever being cleaned. Not quite so bad nowadays as youngest talked her into changing his diet and it is not quite so bad now.

OH Flying back from Southampton this a.m. but he seems to be fog bound at present. That messes up my timings as I was going to have a little wander around Inverurie...they have a nice M and S food store.

  • ANNETTE My friends OHs secretary got married at Gretna Green a couple of months ago. she had been married before so this time just announced their marriage on return home. The reception is this weekend.

  • Morning all ... damp and gloomy here at the moment. I am off out later to watch Ark Royal arriving for her farewell visit to the Tyne ... she was built on the Tyne, so is a real favourite here.. I have seen her a few times before, but this will be a bit special, and they are expecting quite a crowd. OH has a dental appointment at lunchtime, so will miss the arrival!

Sad news in the local 'Journal' newspaper this morning ... hen harriers have failed to breed again in the North East uplands and are facing extinction in this area. Link is here:

I have been reading the great 'ring debate' with interest! I must admit to a feeling of slight unease when I first heard it, but I'm sure Kate must have known, and approved the idea.

Linda - how exciting that 'Sweetpea' is almost ready to make his/her appearance ... every time the phone rings must make your heart jump!

OG - your talk on the white-tailed eagles sounded good ... such magnificent birds. I saw them in the West of Ireland last year and they are breathtakingly beautiful. There was one tagged bird around North Northumberland last month ... apparently one of the East Coast released birds.

patriciat - how wonderful to have seen a red squirrel so close to home! We have a quite a lot in Northumberland, and OH's sister has them in the trees at the bottom of her garden ... lucky her!!

Must go and sort the washing machine ... no noise now, so it must have finished!

Thanks to all for chat etc

    Take care.

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Oooh!  Joan!  how lovely to be able to go see the Ark Royal arriving!  - will you be able to take any pics?? Give her a wave from me!

  • OG  forgot to say, that talk on the WT  Eagles sounded great, you must have enjoyed yourselves.

Better weather predicted for the next few days, but colder and drier weather for next week for most parts, so could be snow even, in the North!   (Mind you, we do get cross as 'in the North' in this context can mean anything north of Birmingham, or even hundreds of miles away in the Scottish borders and uplands, so meaningless, really! - don't think the Londoners care much!)   Sorry, rant over...

Did catch some of the Lulu programme this morning about life in the 60's - they showed the excitement of the 1st Moon Landing - those were heady days (stayed up all night on a couple of occasions....)

Lynette:      Love Lowry pics, have a small copy in the hall of an unusual one with no matchstick men, but sailing boats, which I love.

  • Morning all,

Thanks for ll the earlier chat,

Djoans : Thanks for the link to the hen harriers article. This is another case of a bird being persecuted by people who own land which is managed for grouse shooting. What pleasure these cretins get from shooting grouse and pheasant is beyond me.

Weather is dull and foggy this morning and lady P has gone off with her daughter to Springfields retail outlet in Spalding. Why they have gone there is beyond me. It is deep in swampie land.

  • Good morning DjoanS and how lovely to be able to see the Ark Royal, hope it keeps dry for you.

Very sad news about the hen harriers, wonder why they are not breeding even though the habitat is right for them.  What a shame that they might be extinct in that area.

It seems if I don't post for a day I have to sign in again.  Same happens on the SWT blog.

  • Good morning Lindybird so the big day is nearly here when Sweet Pea will make an appearance.  I can just imagine how you are feeling.  Something to really look forward to.

About the ring "I loved you then, I love you now, and  I will always love you"   - that is so romantic.

Cold day here and already had a couple of heavy showers with more prolonged rain forecast for tonight yet again.  Cold as well just not my favourite weather at all.  At least I am not suffering like those are in parts of Cornwall.  Hard to believe that we had perfect weather when we were there in September.

I am waiting to hear from the RSPB about the volunteering at LG any day now I hope and the poor postman hardly has time to put the post through the letter box before I am grabbing it.

Will be looking in to Children in Need tonight.  Wonder if the current financial situation means that not so much money will be raised this year.  Hope not as when you see some of the causes it goes to it really makes you realise how much the extra funds mean to various charities.
