  • Backside of a bird. :-) Juve is not food calling, just sitting in the rain.

  • Ha!!! Sorry JSB. Didn't see your capture. By the way, GREAT job on the osprey data spreadsheet!!! Very impressive.

  • Morning all. Picture of the juve at 6.38am.

  • Very good, Tiger. All I captured was a bird bum. LOL So I'm off to sleep. Happy full moon, everyone, and have a good Tuesday!

  • Diane, thank you for kind comment.......I was keen to get the #1 migration and last sightings dates as accurate as possible.

  • Diana  Ah that is why it is a team effort.

JSB      Just to reiterate what Diane said, your data sheets are great. It has taken no small effort to get them so comprehensive.

  • Tiger: These two could be easily caught, with the offer of food. Ringed and sat tagged, if one wished? I thought about translocation as well? I know this is 100% against, policy of RSPB, but a time may come when, it could be considered, if this situation continues. Has anything like this been attempted before, I have not heard of it.

  • JSB    I had not thought of the idea of catching them but I suppose it is certainly possible.

I think they are a bit too old for translocation. They would need to have been translocated about a month ago or earlier.

This situation is not going to continue. Look at old Deshar he stayed around for five days before deciding that the free lunches were over. I had not realized it until yesterday but I think Deshar may have been without food for ten days as there is no evidence that he caught a fish until he arrived in Kent as far as I know. But then Deshar may be much loved in these parts but not the best precedent!

Come to think of it, any osprey that cannot fast for at least 10 days would never have much hope of getting across the Sahara.

Here was the discussion about Mallachie at this time last year. See http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/groups/lochgartenospreys/forum/t/4336.aspx

  • Tiger: I read the Mallachie thread.....so maybe the birds' reserves are enough for a period of 'x' days. X could be longer than we think? Also another stray thought, was Odin's taking back the fish from the chick....maybe he is cleverer than we credit him with....see the fish, follow me and I will drop it back in the fish pond....now you catch it.
