August is the month when we've seen the Loch Arkaig ospreys depart on their journey south. We've enjoyed watching them this year - the wonderful parenting skills of Aila and Louis, and the antics of their 3 chicks, Captain, Vera and Doddie.
Mary GK did an absolutely wonderful video summarising the 2020 season. Thank you so much Mary! And here is Geemeff's great compilation, thank you!
2020 last dates:
Doddie JJ6 was last seen at the nest on Saturday 15th August 2020
Aila was last seen on Saturday 22nd August 2020
Captain JJ7 was last seen on Sunday 23rd August 2020
Vera JJ8 was last seen on Saturday 5 September.
An unidentified osprey was seen off camera on Sunday 6 September eating a fish. This could well have been Louis, having arrived and found no Vera around to feed.
Doddie JJ6 was videod and photographed fishing for over a fortnight at Avalon Marshes in Somerset

Ian S said:It looks like the last fish delivery was at 15.55 on Friday. I don't think anyone is starving quite yet, there were five fish yesterday & WT chat reports that the fourth (14.29) was the 500th fish for the season. Ian
The way they scream for fish, they think they're starving! There were five fish yesterday, Louis delivered two trout and Aila delivered three mackerel including that 500th fish. Interesting that there have only been five mackerel this season, and all caught by Aila.
Another little songbird visited last night, a Coal Tit - well, the nest is going to be empty soon enough so someone might as well enjoy it.
10.20, JJ7 & JJ8 are on the nest as Louis brings in a whole fish. After a struggle that lasts well over a minute JJ7 gets the fish. The struggle for the fish would make a good video. Ian

Fish fight, half an hour ago. I think JJ7 got it, JJ8 didn't, but I'm prepared to be corrected

It did make a good video, Ian!
Gie's a fish
14.32, JJ8 is alone on the nest (& has been on & off for a while) as Aila delivers a whole fish. Ian

Aila delivered a second fish this evening, making a total of only three today. Interestingly, this is the second consecutive day she brought more fish to the nest than Louis, two to his one today, three to his two yesterday.
Fish number three, whole mackerel delivered by Aila, Vera gets it 19.27.19
Fish number two, whole mackerel, delivered by Aila, Vera gets it 14.32.17
