Beautiful female, Rutland's CJ7:
The hoped-for partner for CJ7, local male LS7, has not yet appeared. CJ has been tending the nest daily and yesterday she took everyone by surprise, producing an egg - which took us by surprise by surviving... until midnight at least ;)
IMAGICAT
I thought she wasn't coming back today but @ 21:53 there was a little bump and as far as I can tell she hasn't yet left - sleeping on the campost? ALISON may like to pass it on that CJ seems to prefer the campost to the perch, and therefore maybe the perch should be modified for next season ;)
What a time I had choosing a thumbnail for this video !!!
Unknown said:Tawny owl on and off between 2.55 and 3.04 at least. Buzzing CJ7? on cam post? Quite funny if you watch right through but then gets serious....
Thanks for the pointer, MICHAEL, I probably would have seen it in the rountine run-thru but it could easily be missed when scrolling thru a 6-hour stretch.
I didn't find it getting very serious but maybe my interpretation is wrong - it seemed to me that CJ stood her ground and just watched! One little peep from her when the owl first arrived? Her feetz were still active @ 03:18 (I can't listen thru the whole night/morning) and I can't find her leaving until gone 5 o'clock
A couple of cambumps but CJ wasn't seen again until:
She had a heartwarming prance:
And did some vague pottering until she flew off @ 08:33:
That's all for now folks :)
Several cambumps thru the day but no nest landing.
18:56 landed on campost, a couple of small peeps.
20:25 I think she was being harassed by a corvid, as there was bouncing, loud foot sounds and repeated cawing.
I think she must have imperceptibly taken off, I can find no further sign of anyone.
No sign of anyone all night according to me!
CJ arrived @ 07:44:
A long time standing and she did some "coughing up":
She flew off to our left @ 10:46.
Landed on campost a couple of minutes before noon.
To nest @ 12:38, potter-preen-potter-stand, she's still there.
EDIT - Flew @ 13:35.
Birdies LG DU update.
