LOCH ARKAIG - The Woodland Trust - May 2020

Link to April thread

Louis arrived on the 5th April and Aila a day later. They were quickly into the old routine of making the nest cosy, stickifying, catching and eating fish, and mating of course. Three eggs were laid ON THE SAME DATES as last year - 23rd, 26th and 29th April. Last year's eggs hatched on 1 and 4 June, although egg 2 failed during hatching and was removed from the nest on 7 June. Let's hope for a healthy trio this year, although we don't want a repeat of snow on 13 May.
  • Awww Ian I haven't seen that post, but I am sure it must have been meant in jest.    Your posts are invaluable to this thread, so please do not stop posting.   I have got timings from your posts which make it so much easier to find when scrolling back.    Please reconsider!   because if you don't I will raise a campaign with a big poster "COME BACK IAN"

EDIT:  I went back to find the post Ian, and see I liked it, but sometimes when catching up I just like all posts with photos in them Smiley - however I still think it wasn't made with any malice.  I can understand how you feel though, and can empathise with you.

I do hope this puts a smile on your face

I will not be posting anymore.

Oh Ian, please re-consider. I can understand how you feel. I was also hurt by someone who picked me up completely wrongly on something I'd said and posted something I nearly referred to Mrs T (or Jess, who's already had to remind us this year of 'The Rules'). But I decided that I got such pleasure from this site (and hopefully, gave something too) that I'd carry on. You have been such a dedicated poster particularly on the Loch Arkaig thread and I'd love it if you'd keep going, please!

A nice sunny morning on the nest, there was a swapover with no fish. Louis is currently on the nest.

I have spent a couple of days thinking about whether the comment of "Yer such a bully, IAN >:(" that was made on 5 May 2020 (in response to a post I made about a fish delivery) was light-hearted or serious. On the basis that it could have been a serious comment and with no desire on my part to offend anyone with my posts, I will not be posting anymore. I hope that the rest of this season & many more to come are happy for the osprey and posters alike.

    Ian

Who ever posted that message Ian I am sure , quite sure, it was meant without malice, a light hearted comment . .I don't understand  why they should make  such  a comment in that , in context with the rest of the pictures and posts it just didn't make sense .  It was a normal and well posted observation by yourself Ian. I shall miss your observations a great deal  .

I sincerely believe it was meant to be light hearted Ian , if only because of deliberately mis-spelling ''Yer'' and the emojo.

  • Ian,
I've just looked back at the post, and seeing who made the comment, and I'm sure it wasnt made with any malice.
I did notice that an emoji was added afterwards, but it didnt come out properly and doesn't show.
I'm sure it was a nice smiling face.
That is the trouble with typing comments rather that talking, they are so easy to misconstrue.

  •  Some action from the nest this morning

Aila brings in some bark after 8 - and picks up a stick and almost clobbers Louis

    Louis delivers a fish

Aila takes it in her beak, and transfers it to her talons and flies off with it

    Louis takes over incubation

  • I haven't looked at the post yet that you refer to IAN but as has been said it can be difficult to interpret the tone of a text and I hope it was meant in jest.
Please don't stop posting We look forward to your detailed posts and you are denying yourself and us of that pleasure

Even if the comment wasn't meant in jest I ask you to believe that the weight of those of us who read, appreciate and enjoy your posts must far outweigh it
  • IAN I have just found the post you refer to She and I started following the ospreys in exactly the same year and I have NEVER known her to make a derogotory remark about anubody.......but herself. Hand on heart, shewill be devastated to think you took her comment in the wrong way.

I hope you are reading these messages of support IAN and I am convinced that once she realizes that her comment made in jest has been the cause of you saying you will not post again, you will receive a heartfelt apology

    ============================

Thank you, PATILY.  And I certainly am !!!

After reading your post, IAN, I was expecting to turn the page and see "Anything you can do, I can do better Stuck out tongue winking eye " ... ... but you're not here !!!

Oh what have I done now, I'm so sorry that what was meant to be quite intimate banter ("your word is my command, nudge-nudge, wink-wink") was so clumsy that it missed the mark by a mile.

I just popped in wondering if I could relax re this nest today, as they seem to be doing well.  And I've been and gone and upset our most reliable, most highly valued, chronicler.  I'm very sorry, IAN :-*
