There has been quite a bit of activity over the last couple of days and we have managed to get the live nest cam running, which is available on YouTube.Since KC5 fledged earlier in the week, she has been out on practice flights with both adults. This is all part of the learning experience and building strength before the long migration back to Africa.
On Thursday 16 July she spent most of the afternoon with a very vocal Blue 24, over the northern part of the lake, circling and learning to hover before they embarked on a longer flight away from Brenig.
An early breakfast was supplied by HR7 on Friday (17/7) morning, followed with the usual daily activity of some more practice flights and rest, until just after lunchtime, Blue 24 became quite agitated on the nest. For the second time this season another Osprey came swooping in from the north across the top of the nest, before heading off south away from Brenig.
Saturday (18/7) was far more sedate but with plenty of movement on and off the nest. HR7 brought in an early morning catch and at lunchtime he brought in another trout, although this time he was not for sharing and sat high up on a perch eating his catch. Not to be outdone Blue 24, shortly after brought in her own catch and was more than willing to share with KC5.
Speaking of KC5, don’t forget there is 3 days left to have your say in the naming poll.
The North Wales Wildlife Trust’s Osprey lookout is now open for the rest of the season, where staff will be able to provide an informative overview of the Brenig Ospreys and the hide is available for booking through the Llyn Brenig Website.
