NEWS FROM OTHER NESTS - 2020

I don't intend to watch the Carnyx Yorkshire Dales Kestrel camera much, but I have just noticed that there are now four eggs. When the stream startetd there were three. From my very limited (google supplied) Kestrel knowledge a clutch can be between three and six eggs, so we may have a couple to go. Ian

Ian,the 4th egg was laid yesterday. There seems to be 2 kastrel threads in the general forum pages. one for Yorkshire 2015 and another shared with the quarry kestrels- rather confusing at the moment. Scylla posted as usual a good video

The camera came back onstream on Monday with 3 eggs present.

The Ospreys from the Boulder County nest that Mary reported on Here have gone on to lay another egg, female is currently sitting on the 5 eggs, however 3 are not expected to hatch. There is a post underneath the cam which explains what might be going on.  It would be nice if the 2 eggs do hatch.

Thanks Starling, I was only reading up last night the post they made about a second clutch, but forgot to post about them hoping that two of the eggs would hatch.   Fingers crossed they do.  

I've just checked in on Tweed Valley. Things look nice and calm with one sitting on the nest and one perched sensibly in the shade. Ian

A couple of things :) The Carnyx Kestrel in Yorkshire has 5 eggs :) ( that was from Peter at Carnyx yesterday) so might have six now maybe !!!!
Secondly a little update from Tweed Valley
Mrs O now has 3 eggs and is settled with her new partner, blue ring male. There have not been any sightings of white leg SS and so we fear the worst for him. He was a legend and held the main nest territory for 16 years in Tweed Valley.
He will be missed but at least his last partner Mrs O, who we believe to be a young female, maybe now 4 to 5 years old has found a new mate to start her own story for Tweed Valley and we are hoping that this new pairing will be successful. The clutch of 3 eggs will hopefully produce fit healthy chicks and we can expect hatching time to be from 25th May.

Many thanks for the Tweed Valley update, Valerie. I thought there was a possibility that there were 3 eggs, as shown in my captures posted on 21st April

Yes Sandra you got some great captures on the 21st :) certainly more that I got - yes very sad about White SS .

I think it is so very sad about ss who celebrated his 20th birthday last year Two more legends lost.....SS and Monty but its a bonus that their respective partners have new mates rather than wasting this breeding season looking for one
