  • I know it sounds a lot, but as you know Alison, it's only a few minutes flying for an Osprey between all those places

  • True. The BoPH team are going to do a coordinated count tomorrow morning, so we shall see what that turns up. Of course, a bird seen today may be gone tomorrow, and another one take its place, so it can only be a snapshot. At least two were seen at the same time by more than one person today.
  • I saw that about 2 at once. It is coming to that time of year again.
    I think the most seen in one day was about 7, and that was before the translocation project
    started.

    03 Aug 2020Osprey from Blackdown

    Around 4pm and a sunny afternoon on Blackdown. Looking south from the scarp edge, a juvenile Osprey was working the valley to the south, along Fernden Lane. There are some fishing ponds there which might have caught its interest. After a few passes at about eye level, but some way off, it flew off to the East. Two circling Ravens gave a nice size comparison - they're big birds but not a patch on the Osprey.
