Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Kind regards, Ann
The squirrels are gradually spending less time in the box but they seem to gather at sleep time. One of the youngsters brought in a bunch of leaves this time, had a chew and left them behind:

There don't seem to be as many critters at the Pond as there were last year, but I haven't been studying long.
IMAGICAT
The Monarch chrysalis differs by a tiny mark near the top. For females, it is a tiny line, for males it looks more like a dot. You are correct, the male butterfly has black spots on the hind wings on a specific vein. When I was raising monarchs I would sex the chrysalises after the caterpillars turned into them. This time, since I missed the eclosing, I couldn't tell by looking at the butterfly itself. I hadn't wanted to disturb the chrysalis beforehand, but by taking a magnifier to it afterwards, I was able to tell it was a girl!

MAKOV BIRDIES
This bird moved so fast when turning to show its face, bits of it blurred:
I shouldn't honour this guy, he'd just been perfectly horrid to a Spadger:
Lovely Jay but he looks a bit bedraggled, must be raining:
