The 2 chicks were ringed on 4 July and assessed as female. They were given ring numbers JJ0 and JJ2, and later named by popular vote as Mallie and Rannoch. Both weighed 1.49kg on ringing but will weigh a lot more now after a further month's-worth of protein-packed-piscine-parenting. The WT subsequently said they thought Mallie may be male. S/he fledged on 20 July and Rannoch on 27 July.

We can see that all yesterday's fish has gone:
Approx. 12.04/05 Louis delivered a fish to a shouting Juvenile. Eating it on the nest and looking around.
Edit: Nice to be able to read the ring number: JJ2.
Kind regards, Ann
Fish was gone about 12.12 or 12.13 but for a few little scraps and she's now shouting for the main course, please, Dad!
Unknown said:Sorry--too excited to hear a Juvie on the nest just now--and it is the first time I've watched this nest in months! Good morning All and thanks for pics and posts over the season!
Ann, I am gad to say that apart from the middle egg not hatching properly it has been a wonderfully routine season as Louis & Aila really now get the hang of this parenting malarky. The much improved anti pine marten defences have also helped, a trail camera placed at the bottom of the tree has shown (I think) at least three failed attempts by a marten to climb the tree. Fortunately the slidy stuff they put on the trunk along with the removal of nearby branches have thwarted the marten. Ian
