Morning all:
Lynette: If you started a new thread, someone made off with it! :-) Still, not a problem. Just checked in and - amazing!! Four birds on the nest. EJ and three chicks. EJ is feeding them. All seem very well behaved. Guess it must be #1 and Titch busy eating?? Perhaps that's #2 hanging back. OMG It's another whale!!
I have been reading LOTL blog and they were saying that Lady is not back to pre illness weight and they would like her to put on more weight before migration.
' We judge a birds weight at the front over the chest- which is known as the 'keel' or breastbone- which is where birds carry their fat reserves.'
We must check out EJ and Odin.
I think EJ & Odin look thinner than when they arrived, Brenda but I'm sure in the next couple of weeks they will have time to put some of that back on. Odin in particular is only young yet, so will soon recover from his exertions; and EJ is a fisherwoman Supreme, so will be able to eat lots of fish now that she is free to go fishing whenever she wants. I'm a bit worried about Lady though - that illness must have knocked the stuffing out of her, at her age.
I am not convinced that is a piece of a fish on the nest. I think it may be a piece of wood shaped like a fish and EJ was testing the juves to see if they knew the difference. LOL
Seriously if that was edible it would be gone by now.
I agree with all you say Linda, but if we get the chance, I would like to watch our two adults and see how much weight they may put on, prior to their migration.
I can hear a chick close to the microphone and another one answering in the distance.
I will try and study your pictures closely Lynette
I was peering/staring at it Alan - it could be just a tough old tail, or something...
There is a GEM on the camera post, I can see it's shadow in the evening sun.... (& its shouting of course)
Just looking at live cam and can see a shadow of an osprey on top of the post, must be this one making all that racket :o)
Finally enough sun to get a pic of it- the 'Ghost birdy'

Youngster calling offstage - you can see his shadow on the cam post, top left side.

One juve just visited and was off promptlyFirst you see him then you don't
A ghostly osprey, a wooden fish and the dead parrot even. I think we all need a lie down !!
Actually, in the sunlight, 'the fish' does look more like a piece of wood. ( a fish fossil )
