Daily Update Tuesday July 27, 2010

Morning all:

Lynette: If you started a new thread, someone made off with it!  :-)  Still, not a problem.  Just checked in and - amazing!! Four birds on the nest. EJ and three chicks. EJ is feeding them. All seem very well behaved. Guess it must be #1 and Titch busy eating?? Perhaps that's #2 hanging back. OMG It's another whale!!

  • OK. Well looks like Titch (I think) has lost interest and #1 now looking up and about.  Someone just flew off.  In the meantime - interesting - EJ sort of turned very pointedly and looked at #2 (I think) who then came forward to eat. But now EJ is eating while the two chicks are watching something.  Now #1 has moved in for seconds!  Oh come on #2, you're going to have to be a bit more assertive!  The meek may inherit the earth but nobody said anything about the fish!!

  • OK. #2 eating again thanks to EJ.   #1 has lost interest and flown away.  #2 still eating but only when EJ feeds him/her.

So. I'm off to bed and turning it over to the morning shift (wonder where everyone else went tonight). We've had one huge EJ-sized fish and all chicks have eaten. Take care all.

  • Well, one of the other chicks - pretty certain it's #1 - has returned. EJ ignored it and continued shoveling food into #2's mouth, but then #1 moved in for seconds - or thirds. #2 still interested but not getting much of a look-in; has now moved to rear of nest for beak-cleaning - and has now flown off.  This is still a huge fish!   #1 really is a powerful-looking bird.  OK, really am signing off now.

  • #1 has flown off. EJ home alone with fish. Really, really am signing off!

  • the juves are gone and EJ is standing on a large  chunk  of  uneaten fish AND there is also a large left over fish on the nest.

She  is softly calling Odin to come and get some of  the food. :)

He just came and flew off with the  large remains of  the left over  fish. It looked like 3/4 of a  large fish

Now she is trying to eat  the  remains of her whopper.  He many need to come back and help her finish  that one too.

  • Middle just came back for more.  EJ is "eager"  to feed her/him.   The fish she  hauled in is so large she  may be on the nest all day  trying to  give it away LOL

So where are the  hungry  intruders juves when  we need them?

  • EJ is still standing on the nest all alone with   part of  a fish  under her foot. She is looking around for someone, anyone who is hungry . I think at this  point she would probably feed an intruder LOL

May be  Odin will come back and help her  eat  the  remaining fish

I am turning this over to the day shift !

  • When I logged in a few minutes ago, EJ was alone on the nest, with a piece of fish under foot. Then one young one flew in screeching for food and tried to take the fish ... EJ held on. Then Odin flew in with a half-eaten fish ... I don't know if this is a new fish or the remains of the one he took away earlier. The young one grabbed Odin's bit of fish and is eating that!

EDIT - thanks for overnight nest reports!
