Weekly Chat, Sunday July 25, 2010

Hi all:  First off, con't miss the last page of last week's chat for lovely photo of Alan's hibiscus and OG's very informative shots of the nest at LG, showing the perch under the nest where chick #1 likes to sit.

OG. Assume plumber on the list for next week.  So Boat of Garten actually has something to do with a real boat!  I thought it was some obscure Scottish vernacular-ish term that had nothing to do with a boat.  There was a nature program here last week about "preparing" an environment for some species that are living in an area that is expected to be threatened by higher ocean levels in the coming years. As with the Lapwings, the change has to be made gradually.

Cirrus.  A 12-mile hike! I probably burned a couple of hundred calories just thinking about it.

Was in the garden all day - as I type have the soaker hose going on the camellias, which I fed and which need deep watering about twice in the summer; they're putting out buds now.  Also fed the roses and plumeria. Found a volunteer duranta repens growing in one of the plumeria pots - I thought it was familiar but only recognized it today.    Sun came out around 11 and lovely cool evening now.

  • Afternoon all,

Thanks for all the postings and pics, great as usual.

Just got back from Downtown near Grantham. Final score: Handbags 0 Shoes 0. Result!!!!!

Pouring with rain when we left but completely dry at home again. We did get some rain last night but not enough.

Tiger : Thanks for the pic of the eclipse.

TerryM: Nice pic of the sparrows in the pipes in the wall. Cant add any more to the ladies underwear discussion I'm afraid. LOL

Not a lot on this afternoon so will be in the garden for a while now.

Thanks for bearing with us, in the baring of our souls,
We talked of Bodices and Wraps, of Knickers and of Rolls,
We mentioned all the instruments of female torture worn
We left out all the Gentlemens', hoping you are not forlorn-
We tend to prattle on a bit, when fashions come to mind -
You probably are used to this, with relations of the female kind!

  • Lindybird - Great stuff, made me really LOL!!

  • Nice to have a laugh, Heather!  Really feel for the Gents on here, as we do go on a bit about fashion etc, sometimes!

Thanks to TerryM   for bird pics, and have a great time at LG next week, Terry.

Diane:    Have you really put your back out?  Oh dear.  Do take care of yourself.

Great pic of the Corn Snake, patriciat.   Never seen one of those.  It was an interesting story. (Its awful how people just abandon pets they don't want anymore) Sorry to hear you've had to see the Doc. Hope they can do something to help.

Thanks to Tiger  for the link to the great pic of the Eclipse - so dramatic.

Hope that margobird  is having a great day out at Goodwood, and found the luxurious loos she mentioned!!! Facilities like that are so important when out and about!  (they are to me, anyway)

Must go tend the dinner now, and pour the white wine out, I'm ready for one of those.  Going to watch a film from our collection later, not much on tonight on The Box except The Proms later, which has a Sondheim theme.

  • Alan - You are one nice gent!!  I had to laugh at handbags nil shoes nil!!!  My OH, IF he comes shopping with me, says silly things like 'Do you need one of these?' . He only buys on a need basis. I buy on a want basis. (Well, occasionally on a need basis) . Fortunately he is very tolerant, with a good sense of humour. He needs it :-)

Heather, I always say, if you don't go out to the shops and look around, how do you know what you need? LOL

  • Filled up on lovely home-grown peas, beans, carrots and spuds!  Thanks everyone for recent posts and pics – and the stuff on the Daily thread too.

Terry – you’ll be just caught up in time for your trip, then have to start all over when you get back!!

Tiger –thanks for link to that very clear APOD.

Diane – sorry about your back – did you do that bending down to Bunny-level to check under the car?  I hope you slept ok and woke with it straightened out – take care of it a while even if it feels better.

Alan – is the Downtown score a new record?  Hope you enjoyed the trip – did you go in the garden centre there?

Lindy – nice wee rhyme for the Gentlemen.

Heather – when we shop (rarely) for clothes, I find it so difficult to find things which I like that fit me, so when I do come across something, my OH always suggests I should have two of them, and possibly multiples in different colours – and regardless of what I might wear it with!!  He is trying to help, but I always feel that my clothes all look the same – and unco-ordinated!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hi OG, we have lovely homegrown peas too, but the beans and courgettes are not quite there yet, and we've never had luck with carrots (root fly). I think you said yours were in pots and we will try that next year. We do have loads of potatoes of course. You are correct, I've caught up now but I might not manage to do that next week, I'll be straight back to work the day after we get home. It's hard enough to keep up to date when I'm here!  I can never find clothes I like either :((

dibnlib, thanks for the poppies and Beauly Firth pics.  I think next week we'll be driving up to the area where Roy Dennis's ospreys are, Nairn and Forres, and I hope we get as good weather as that.

Well done again, Lindy, that Gents poem was quick work :))

  • Rain & wind blew in last night. No damage here but other places not so well off. Expected 13 C. I am wearing many layers as my friend & I are off on another history bus day trip. This to Fleurieu Peninsula - Willunga, Normanville, Second Valley & Cape Jervis. Report & maybe photos tomorrow.

  • Starting new thread, because Annette may be busy with her friends tonight.
