Weekly Chat, Sunday July 25, 2010

Hi all:  First off, con't miss the last page of last week's chat for lovely photo of Alan's hibiscus and OG's very informative shots of the nest at LG, showing the perch under the nest where chick #1 likes to sit.

OG. Assume plumber on the list for next week.  So Boat of Garten actually has something to do with a real boat!  I thought it was some obscure Scottish vernacular-ish term that had nothing to do with a boat.  There was a nature program here last week about "preparing" an environment for some species that are living in an area that is expected to be threatened by higher ocean levels in the coming years. As with the Lapwings, the change has to be made gradually.

Cirrus.  A 12-mile hike! I probably burned a couple of hundred calories just thinking about it.

Was in the garden all day - as I type have the soaker hose going on the camellias, which I fed and which need deep watering about twice in the summer; they're putting out buds now.  Also fed the roses and plumeria. Found a volunteer duranta repens growing in one of the plumeria pots - I thought it was familiar but only recognized it today.    Sun came out around 11 and lovely cool evening now.

  • Oh Lindybirtd what can I say I love it but needless to say you have reduced me to tears.  You are so clever and I really appreciate the nice things you have said.  Take a bow yourself and i will go and dry my eyes.  Lots of hugs and kisses to you.

  • Brilliant Linda and so true. Our very own ' Dancing Queen'.

  • Thanks, Brenda.     Wish I were better at technical things-  I've just spent 15 minutes trying to make a copy of it myself, & the printer was playing up!  (I've only got scribbles on bits of paper!)

  • Linda - that's a terrific poem for our margobird!

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Well done with your poems Lindybird, they're excellent, very clever :o)

  • DjoanS and Brenda H  I felt so honoured and touched by by Lindybird's poem.  This Dancing Queen just had a nap on the settee.  The heat and humidity really got to me yesterday and then I had a bad night.  Got to get myself up and running again as I will be out Thursday evening.  Going to a folk club with OH, first time for me but OH goes regularly.  Not really into folk music but the person I am going to see is a little bit country and western which I like.  No dancing though as it is a sitting down gig.  Satruday we are going horse racing at Glorious Goodwood.  Lovely track right in the heart of the Sussex Downs.  We go every year and are always lucky with the weather, but not so lucky picking winners.  We have had one or two over the years but is very difficult at Goodwood to pick winners as all the horses are top of the class.  It is a wonderful day out but very wearing on the legs and feet so guess I will be tired again Saturday evening but have Sunday to get over it.  The following weekend my sister, niece and I are off to London to go and see The Lion King which I am really looking foward to.  OH has booked us a nice hotel for the night so a really girlie weekend.  OH will be dealing with my birds for me and probably enjoying time to play all his music which I don't like.

george p nice photo of Loch Garten and I do hope you will be able to find out more about Bil tomorrow.

  • Lindybird you did cneer me up no end.  I have had a nap for 45 minutes earlier and feel a bit more with it.  OH thinks your poem is impressive too.

  • I see I put my previous post on the wrong blog, slapped wrists for me.

Have just been out and got a line of white washing in to find that the birds have used OH's favourite shirt and a brand new teeshirt as a target.  Not very nice after all the running about I do for them, one of the hazards of attracting birds into the garden.

  • Loved Lindybird's poem for Margobird, and apart from liking it so much, I was/am so impressed by the way that she has remembered the little details, like the donkeys, etc. Only when I read the poem did I remember the donkeys. Lindybird - marvellous! Margobird - I am not surprised that you became emotional.
