LOCH OF THE LOWES – MAY 2019

Thanks for all info about eggs. Every year, I seem to ask myself the same questions which, after 10+ years of osprey watching, you'd think I'd remember the answers/data. Maybe there's no critical developmental stage for an osprey egg to affected by cold (as with swifts, whose eggs can survive being abandoned/chilled for a while - they just 'suspend' development).

If full incubation hasn't started then it doesn't seem to matter if the eggs are left uncovered.
Peregrines leave their first and second laid eggs uncovered for hours on end and only start full time incubation once the third egg is actually laid.
