Unknown said: Patily, The ukospreys website shows an unringed female at the Manton Bay nest from 2008, mating with male Green 5R(04). I presume that female is the bird formerly known as Mrs 5R and now known as Maya. That means that Maya is at least 12 or 13 years old and possibly older. I hope an expert will correct me if that is wrong!

This should do it.
Maya arrived in 2009 and was thought to be a two year old returning for the first time. So if she was hatched in 2007 then she should be 11 years old.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
The Blog says she first returned in June 2009. Late in the season which would indicate she was probably a first time returner. There is no way of knowing her true age but the circumstances and date suggest that two/three is a pretty good guess.
3AW off on migration?
