WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY MARCH 4 2018

Diane: Will REALLY miss you on here.  Like Heather, I enjoy your updates on RTH and other critters.

Spoke to niece in Newport Pagnell today via Facetime; saw pix of her cats snuggled by the fire and snow piled up in the garden.

Have been shopping for a new laptop and a replacement iPhone (an older model) so I can pass on mine to one or other family member with an even more ancient and failing model.  My laptop screen keeps dimming plus odd video symptoms pop up and it turned itself off the other day.  Costco has a really good deal on one and I do like what they call their "concierge" service that adds another year to the manufacturer's warranty.  They were a great help in resolving a problem with a new TV we bought some years back when the manufacturer and local service person flaked out - they arranged to have someone drive up from Los Angeles to sort it out (we ended up with a replacement), but Costco handled the whole thing.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

  • Morning all:

Clare: Those photos are wonderful. I love the "grooming" pix where the recipients seem so relaxed - a spa day for them.  :-) And that White-Tailed Hungarian eagle - a bad hair day and then some!  Wonder if that poor Gannet managed to dump the netting...  Anyway. Thanks for some lovely pix!

Lindybird: So glad they found out no fuel aboard before they took off. :-)  Enjoy the sun.

OG: Gosh, almost time for the next Windows update.

Hope all are well and able to get out and about....

Glad you liked them - I though they were wonderful!

I really hope so.  It's heartbreaking to see birds caught up in litter.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

Karen: Just Googled Queensway Crossing and see that it's 1.7 miles across - looks much longer in the photos.  Did they tell you to wear comfy shoes?

Annette - yes they did:-)  Communications was excellent, plenty of advice and instructions including to also take a warm, waterproof jacket as it can get very windy over The Firth of Forth.  Luckily on the day, the weather was nice - dry with a slight breeze.

  • Karen: Yes, and I doubt they had a coffee/hot chocolate booth set up halfway!  :-)

  • Lindy, sorry you had such a bad start to your journey, after getting up so early as well. That is a new one, 'No fuel in plane'. At least it was not 'Leaves on the runway" Things can only get better.

Wonderful photographs, Clare. (I see that word has been used many times already), but they are. I would not want to choose a winner.

I will have a moan. My dishwasher has packed up, and is not reparable. When did we get to be so reliant on machines? I managed to live without one for the first forty years, I don't like manual washing up now. Simple meals and foil lined roasting trays are the way to go right now!

New one arriving on Monday. Delayed by weather conditions!

Heather, I think you have also been having machine problems. Hope you are sorted now.

  • Rosy - sorry to hear about your dishwasher.  Yes, we are all becoming so reliant on machines.  But they do save time for us to fill with something else!

I made a lovely stir-fry today, switched the kettle on for hot water for the rice - and it blew the fuse!  Soon sorted, but now no kettle.  Easier, and cheaper, to replace than a dishwasher.  But here's the spooky bit ... my daughter rang last night and told me a friend was making her a stir-fry when the electricity went off.  Aarrgghh!

Lindy - if you see this ... hope you are having a lovely break.  Looking forward to the photographs!

  • Hmm. Well, talk about spooky, my UK sister's dishwasher just died at the grand old age of - 4-1/2!!! The domestic appliance gods are angry... :-)

  • Good lunch at church -  both chose Minestrone for our soup, OH had his Trifle and I was persuaded o have Sticky Toffee Pud but declined the cream or icecream - it was very good!

Man coming to see Microwave tomorrow afternoon to decide whether it can be mended or needs replacing.  So I won't get my lunch at the OTB - will have to go to M&S Food in the morning and have lunch at home.

New car ready for collection next Thursday, so that gives us a week to check it out on the road.  Will be a rush among other appointments that week, including dentist that lunchtime!

Sorry to read of more equipment breaking down!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Agree ANNETTE/ROSY/PAT/OG, very spooky- must be the week for appliance failures! I've had no call from supply company so can assume that new dryer has not arrived up here! Will phone them tomorrow, to check.

LINDY- We were sitting on Inverness runway early morning, years ago and told by pilot that the man who refuels the planes had slept in!!!! Could only happen in a tiny airport...

OG- I don't have a very sweet tooth but can rarely refuse sticky toffee pudding which is just about the sweetest thing on any menu!

CLARE- I was hoping that I would see your name attached to one of the pics!

    Blimey.  That'll be the day!!
