WEEKLY CHAT (non-osprey) SUNDAY MARCH 4 2018

Diane: Will REALLY miss you on here.  Like Heather, I enjoy your updates on RTH and other critters.

Spoke to niece in Newport Pagnell today via Facetime; saw pix of her cats snuggled by the fire and snow piled up in the garden.

Have been shopping for a new laptop and a replacement iPhone (an older model) so I can pass on mine to one or other family member with an even more ancient and failing model.  My laptop screen keeps dimming plus odd video symptoms pop up and it turned itself off the other day.  Costco has a really good deal on one and I do like what they call their "concierge" service that adds another year to the manufacturer's warranty.  They were a great help in resolving a problem with a new TV we bought some years back when the manufacturer and local service person flaked out - they arranged to have someone drive up from Los Angeles to sort it out (we ended up with a replacement), but Costco handled the whole thing.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

  • KAREN   I wonder if people know that the 1964 road bridge over the Forth had a pedestrian walkway. The Queensferry Crossing doesn't have this so it was a privilege for those invited to walk across the bridge before the official opening.   Glad you were one of them.

  • LINDY    I do hope your cousins husband improves.

  • Good evening, all.  I finally made it back to Minsmere today after all the lovely weather we had last week - if you'd like to see some photos click on Woody here:

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Hi everyone - thanks for all your comments and interest in my Queensferry Crossing Experience. It really was fantastic and I feel truly privileged to have been one of the 50,000 as it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to walk the new bridge as Dibnlib says – quote

For anyone that is not familiar with the bridges, here is another of my photos I took from within the bus when travelling back via the Forth Road Bridge  after we had completed our walk of the Queensferry Crossing and clearly shows the pedestrian walkway Dibnlib refers to.

I remember, as if it were yesterday, looking over at the Queensferry Crossing and thinking, “Wow, I have just walked that”. What a feeling :-)

  • I hope everyone keeps well and Lindybird - wishing you a good holiday and OG - I hope you enjoy the reception and view of the bridges. Look forward to hearing about your trip over and what you think :-)

  • Evening all:  Finally. Made decision and bought new iphone (the most modest upgrade - we really don't need to fly to the moon) as OH has decided he can't be the only person in the family without one.  We all have ancient models; we upgraded to the next-least-ancient one.

Heather: New laptop no problem due to fact that I haven't bought it yet! Although making the decision about which to buy is a problem all its own.....

Karen: Just Googled Queensway Crossing and see that it's 1.7 miles across - looks much longer in the photos.  Did they tell you to wear comfy shoes?

Doubt that Lindybird will have time to look in before she leaves on vacation (probably too busy trying to squeeze another pair of shoes in the case).  :-)

Off to bed; have a good Thursday everyone.

  • LINDY   have a great holiday.

Got word from a friend in Fife yesterday.  Last week they couldn't leave the very small village where they live from Tuesday through till Sunday afternoon and only then because of a neighbour who had access to a tractor.  Anyway they are out and about now.

  • Good morning - no rain since last night, and bright sunshine now.  Looks like I may venture out to the church lunch today - just the monthly "soup and sweet" fundraiser - but I shan't have sweet.  OH likes to go and get his trifle as we don't have pudding at home!  Actually he will be going early to plug in the church laptop to update Windows 10 - nobody else bothers, and he is doing the PowerPoint this Sunday.

J was picked for the Jury yesterday and the case is ongoing today - expected to finish this afternoon.  He seemed calmer last evening - glad to get it underway.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning, all.  If anyone would like to have a look at the finalists for the 2018 Bird Photographer of the Year check out this link.

  • Hello!!  (Waves!!)   I had difficulty getting online last night, as I was so tired and the password here was hard to decipher.  But we made it OK, after sitting on the tarmac for nearly an hour in Manchester, as some idiot had signed the plane off the night before as being all fuelled up, when in fact it was empty! The Captain said that in over 30 years of flying, he'd never had that problem before. Just our luck. We had also spent ages in the queue for security screening before checking in.

Went to try a new Italian pizza place and shared a big one, with a welcome glass of wine before falling into bed. The sun is shining nicely, now, and here is a pic of the beautiful sunset last night:
