  • Its been quite cold here and of course the snow hasn't melted - this is what it looked like at 9am Sunday morning.

Brother and his partner came down on Saturday with their C.presents and so we went to a local pub for lunch.   Said there was snow up in the North West and coming down the motorway but none down here. Snow didn't hit us till about 4am Sunday morning.

I had our minister on the line Sunday am saying the morning service was cancelled and then an email saying also the evening one too  - all because of the snow.

  • Forgot to say, dibnlib, that I'm glad you enjoyed the Ball & Boe concert, I love Michael Ball.

Annette:  "Ruby" is the name I've given to our new (slightly old) car which we bought to replace the one which had to go to the scrapyard. She is a lovely shade of red!  We've discovered that she has a wonderful heater, which is a boon in this weather, LOL!

Lynette:  Nice snow pics. Have heard about lots of cancellations due to the weather, some of them apparently unnecessary.

  • Expected max 38 C, it reached 39 by 10.30 am, north (hot) winds, high fire danger, cool change tonight.

Good to read all your chat even if it has taken all morning! I spend most of my time lying flat on back on lounge as sitting too painful even before 15 mins. Watching antique versions of Antique Roadshow, ancient Midsumer Murders, early New Tricks, the news. Library books finished, reading books from my Probably-Will-Cull pile. Knitting. I’m bo-o-ored. Exercises every 1½ hours.

  • Oh heck, AQ!

Sounds grim --  A first reaction is that it would be nice to be immobilized for a bit, but that's going to drive you nuts, I can see. Hope the exercises do the trick.

Good  Morning,  Everyone. Dull here but we still have some snow on the ground in spite of light rain last night.

I think many of us are destined to be old and inconvenient.

I'm planning to be old and cantankerous.  People like that tend to be remembered fondly, at least in part.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Clare, do you mean old and cantankerous as opposed to young and cantankerous? I like it!

  • I do mean old and cantankerous.  I've yet to hear anyone young being described as cantankerous - I suspect younger people are just awkward or stroppy.

  • Love it Clare. Time to practise again!

  • Good morning – went warmer last evening, rain showers this morning and around seven degrees – looking horrendous for tomorrow when this lot is expected to freeze as sheet ice.  Hope everyone else is safe.

Baked shortbread this morning – and made some of Rosy’s cheese and chive scones – each ate one while warm – delicious, but will use a stronger cheese next time, as they were a bit eggy.

Bjane – can see how the inverted dimples help prevent wheels slipping!  Does your Daughter have a self-propelled or escort pushed chair?  I chose not to go self-propelled due to weak wrists, and because smaller wheels are more easily accommodated in the car.  I have appreciated it in the cold weather as it’s so much quicker than my slow wobbly walking!

Linda – talking of catching up – do we ever? – I suddenly realised that I have a list of emails to prepare!

ForestBoar – we have a not-dropped-enough kerb at our doctor’s surgery – and it is so often used as a drop-off and cars left there by lazy drivers.  A lot are not properly thought out by design.

Lynette – thanks for snow pics.  Stay safe, and I hope the bruised knee is recovering.

AQ – pleased you had a cooler start today.  Sorry you are getting so bored, you must be quite eager for exercise time to come around!  OH’s back is still painful, but nothing like yours – his is definitely muscular.

Clare – I can be cantankerous – on a good day!  And leaning towards wearing purple!

Well, on with … something!  Need to move “pour encourager les autres”!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
