HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

When I was young, I spent a lot of time on the Gulf coast of Florida. My then-husband had family there. I so loved watching the Gulf wildlife. Tonight, the area where I explored the wild is under a mandatory evacuation order. It's expected to be hit hard by the massive Hurricane Irma. (For perspective: Irma is bigger than France.) My thoughts are with the people and the wildlife throughout the southeast U.S.

  • HARELADY - enjoy your day with the two Granddaughters!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Nice to hear from you, Harelady.  I love the names of your granddaughters.  Enjoy your time with them.

  • HARELADY- Congratulations on all the steps! Enjoy your Nanny duty- I love every minute I spend with the grandchildren, even when Callum leaves soap suds all over the drive after washing his car. Sometimes he hoses them off, sometimes he forgets and I just shake my head and try to laugh (!)I'd rather have soapsuds than not see him!

  • We got the RSPB letter all about Arne, yesterday. It sounds like a good thing: if they can be responsible for the whole of that area, there will be better prospects for all of the wildlife. We are going to make a donation in memory of dear Margo, and to help the RSPB in their efforts.

To me, shoes are to be worn as little a possible, when necessary to keep feet off the ground!

I agree!!! Bare feet now. I own one pair of sneakers and one pair of slip-ons. The latter what we used to call court shoes.

  • This week’s window is a door at Buda House in Castlemaine, Victoria. I have posted more Buda bird windows on flickr today.

  • Nanny duty has its ups & downs. I arrived early so Dau could catch some personal shopping time. MissL a little sad but wandered off while I played snakes & ladders with MissJ, followed by some 3 little pigs game which neither of us knew how to play. MissJ won!!! I went looking for MissL to see that she was Ok. I couldn’t find her. I checked every room, every cupboard, in her bed, under her bed (ooh not good for new knees), no sight or sound of her. How do I tell Dau I have lost her child? Then MissJ says her sister is under parents’ bed. Sure enough, there she was, squished in, fast asleep. Phew.

Annette - My trip next week is solo, by car. Burra is only 100 miles from city. A few photo stops along the way and pics of Burra for day 1. Next day further north to Mount Bryan, Hallett, Whyte Yarcowie & Terowie (about 40 miles) , returning to Burra for another night. Last day I wander down to Clare, Brinkworth, Snowtown and home. I originally planned this escape and set a date in April last year . . . until I fell and damaged wrist & knee. Fingers (and toes) crossed that nothing goes wrong this time. BTW no trains to Burra anymore. Bus, perhaps 3 a week and takes 4 hours, whereas car 2 hours. Only car to places I want to go.

This Sunday my bus trip is to the “upper leg” of Yorke Peninsula, visiting Ardrossan, Balgowan, Winulta, etc and lunch in Maitland.

  • Evening all:

Lindybird: Must say that armadillos is/are? one species that  isn'taren't?  so cute when young.

Diane: The Cassini spacecraft is subject of tonight's NOVA. It's due to crash into Saturn Friday and I see that NASA is showing Cassini End of Mission (Clean Feed and Commentary- ???) at 7 a.m. ET Friday (4.a.m. our time).

Heather:  I Facetime with my niece in the UK a lot. Given that it's usually early morning when we do that, I just try to make sure I've brushed my hair. Paint has never been the same since they took the lead out - obviously a good move, but with the semi-glossses/satin finishes it gunks up immediately and is impossible to smooth out even when you go right back over it.

OG: Can you order that light fitting?  Digging up potatoes for "this evening" sounds so healthy!

Harelady: Good to hear from you; Sounds like you've got a lot going on.  That is indeed an impressive number of steps: Hope you aren't sore tomorrow!   I can imagine meeting granddaughter from school would be a pleasure. When I was in Arizona recently, I went with my granddaughter to pick up Ms. D. and we went off to play miniature golf and other escapades.   Anyway, hope Seraphina is well enough so you can do that.

dibnlib: Most of my shoes these days are washable - even my two favorite leather pairs. I just hose my sandals down in the garden and give them a wipe over with 409 if necessary.  Do have one "good" leather pair for - well, I'm not sure what now...

OG/AQ: I started to wear socks around the house when the guy who installed our carpet said bare feet left a residue that meant the carpet got dirty quicker than it might otherwise. I could live with hardwood floors actually, but not OH.

AQ: Such lovely "non-traditional" windows. Glad you didn't misplace Miss L permanently.  :-)  So two nights away on Burra trip and just Sunday for the Yorke Peninsula. Are you going with a group or chauffeur friend?  Whichever, enjoy it and find lots of church windows to shoot!

Have spent the last couple of weeks with paperwork/trip stuff (mine and grandson's - he'll be leaving for the UK/Paris three days after I get back).  I realized today (and this is how crazy it's been) that I was actually looking forward to coming back home and spending some time giving  the house a thorough clean!

Off to slice some nectarines and excavate  ice cream .  Speaking of excavate, did anyone see the photo of the huge "fat" blob that's blocking one of the sewers under London?  Apparently it weighs as much as 10 double decker buses and is made up of wipes, grease, etc that people put down sinks and toilets.  Yuk. Looks just ghastly!

    Have a good Thursday all.

  • Good Morning, All.   Dry here.

AQ - Glad you found the "lost child!" -- You must've been getting worried, there! Adore the window you posted -- how gorgeous. -- I want one now!

Hope you enjoy your trips away. Please get your car checked over if you're going to such a remote place alone!

Annette - I thought the little armadillo was cute. We found that our hallway carpet was stretching, and the carpet man who laid our new dining room one said that it's partly because we have wet feet when we come in the front door. I was a little exasperated, as we have a big doormat in the front porch but reckon that I'm the only one who wipes their feet properly. Boo!  We don't wear dirty shoes in the house and we both have slippers on most of the time. I was a mainly barefoot child, and like to take my shoes off when I can. However, these days you can get such comfy shoes (such as Skechers and Birkenstocks) that I wear them most of the time.

I saw the fatburg --  Yeugh!!
