HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

When I was young, I spent a lot of time on the Gulf coast of Florida. My then-husband had family there. I so loved watching the Gulf wildlife. Tonight, the area where I explored the wild is under a mandatory evacuation order. It's expected to be hit hard by the massive Hurricane Irma. (For perspective: Irma is bigger than France.) My thoughts are with the people and the wildlife throughout the southeast U.S.

  • Cute again.

LYNETTE  Our cruise was with P & 0 and it was excellent. Would certainly sail with them again.

  • Good morning - nearer to some kind of routine today here!  Storm Aileen last night definitely went by further south than forecast - just had some rain off the edge of her.

LYNETTE - OH did get paint (Dulux mixed to order) but couldn't find the light fitting we hoped, so work won't start yet!

LINDA - baby Armadillo - or is it a Clanger?

Cleaning day here, and lots of little jobs too; bring it on!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning from me, too! A damp day but nothing worse. Younger grandchild in Elgin is off to Culbin forest today, for a field trip. It is raining heavily over there but it hasn't dampened her enthusiasm. I was sent a pic on Messenger and her smile couldn't be any wider.

I had a surprise last evening. My friend in Wales phoned, we had a long chat and after we finished, my mobile rang and she was making a video call (is that what it is called?). I know nothing about doing this sort of thing so it was amusing to see her on the screen as we chatted. Then I spotted myself up in the corner of the screen. All I can say is that I would be very wary of answering such a call before having the morning shower and hairwash :-)

I've never been on a cruise holiday although OH and I spoke about it from time to time. We were particularly interested in going on the Hurtigruten Norwegian coastal voyage, LINDY.

Sorry, OH, that you couldn't get your desired light fitting. Speaking about paint mixing - I read in the newspaper that a certain very expensive paint company are changing their formula because the paint is so difficult to apply - decorators hate using it. Then the columnist queried how many folk actually pay such a lot of money for said paint, when you can just get a tester pot and take to the paint store and get the same colour mixed for you !

ANNETTE/LINDY - Someone I know always says that you can tell a lot about people just by looking at their shoes!

Off to speak to the washing machine etc.

  • Managed to only have a sprinkling of rain on my head after my haircut. My hairdresser told me an amusing tale about a client of hers, now no longer with us, who used to regale her with stories of how she had been all around the world on cruise ships, then during one conversation dropped in the information that she never ever left the ship!!

Heather - I've always noticed shoes. Everyone has a different relationship with theirs! I did see a report recently about the difference between the sexes - apparently, when young men were introduced to a new woman, their eyes flicked up and down, appraising the young lady's, um... attributes. But when a young woman was introduced to a man, she looked at his eyes, his smile and .......his shoes!!

  • HEATHER    Hope your grandchild enjoys Culbin. Nice to know that unlike Benson, who refused his am walk because it was raining, your granddaughter doesn't mind the rain. I got back from my swim and coffee at 1230 and immediately took Benson for a walk. it started to rain quite heavily near the end, but that didn't bother him.

Definitely hate scruffy shoes. My RAF background is still instilled. Back in Dec I saw a GP (luckily only a temp) who had on the most disgraceful pair of shoes. They were tatty, scuffed and doubt if they had seen a polish since bought. I would only ever have seen him again in an emergency. Worse still (I think) was that he told me that my heel problem was only a sprain which would get better in time. Since then of course I have seen another GP who diagnosed achilles tendinopathy Nought out of ten for him!!!

  • HEATHER - I hope that Mia is having a lovely time at Culbin Forest - and will be able to tell you all about the history of the Forest and the Sands!  Very brave to accept the video call last night - I would hate that, but it isn't likely to happen to me as I don't have a smart phone, and haven't used my old-style phone since I got freed from hospital!  Light fitting remains on shopping list. so postpones painting and thus new carpet too!  I can't guess what anyone thinks of my shoes - I have a pair of brown and of black of the only kind which fits - and similar sandals, black and beige!  To me, shoes are to be worn as little a possible, when necessary to keep feet off the ground!

LINDA - just one shower of rain here - just happened to be when OH was digging up potatoes for this evening!

DIBNLIB - pleased the boy enjoyed the lunchtime walk despite rain starting.

Lovely blue sky here now - obviously intending to take people by surprise.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Hello all from a very windy Suffolk. I feel very virtuous as I have been on a 5 mile walk with my walking group and managed over 13000 steps!

Ditto here with the juvenile goldies - had them on the feeder for the last few days.

As for cruises - the only one I fancy is the one mentioned by Heather - Hurtigruten Norwegian coastal - has anyone done this and can they recommend?

I'm off to Silverstone for Nanny duty on Friday - looking after 5 month old Luna while Daughter is on a course. Will also be seeing eldest Granddaughter Seraphina, currently at home sick but due back at school tomorrow hopefully. I will meet her from school - something I love doing.

  • HARELADY    Hope you enjoy your nanny duty.
