There's a nest in Ontario, Canada, west of Toronto that lost its female June 18. The male has stepped up to care for the 2 chicks (16 and 14 days old) by himself. Belwood Lake and Grand River - assuming those are his fishing grounds - look to be practically on the doorstep of the nest.
So far, so good...obviously a very fragile situation, but is it unheard of for a single parent to raise chicks from this stage to fledging?
Banding!! Phew!!
They have also removed the orange twine from the nest.
Thanks Hedgy ...I feel a bit better now...phew
Thanks Pandy....
They are back in the nest :-)
Still a little bit of tidying up being done

Missed that. I watched a couple of times today and last time was around 13.30 our time and dad was feeding again. The smaller was being fed but the bigger turned quite aggressively on him chasing him into the grass edging and lay there submissively. He then tried to get in on the feed again when bigger had finished but by that time there was only the tail bit left and he got little. About half an hour later Dad was back with another fish and again bigger check got the lion's share.
