The news that Blue 33 has now has two chicks home (well nearly) from the first two eggs that he fertilised puts him in the super osprey class.
Now 33 has always been a bit special since 1st August 2011 when he decided to visit the Manton Bay nest in Four's a crowd In 2014 he evicted his older brother (Blue 28) from the Manton Bay nest and moved in with Maya
Nothing really prepared us for his extraordinary feat in his first year of breeding. An osprey can strive for a lifetime to have two returning chicks. Blue 33 has done it in just over 2 days the time between eggs #1 and egg #2 in 2015
The legendary 3 (97) took four years to sire a chick that returned, the wonderful 5R (04)
Here is a resume on Blue 33 also known as 33 (11)
and Manton Bay stats

Agree, an amazing achievement Tiger. Thanks for the history of Blue 33. Congratulations to Maya too!

He was an only chick because 9(98) got fed up with being messed around with by his mother.
He certainly was. It is a pity that his natal nest did not have a webcam.

I didn't remember that 33 and 28 were brothers :o
When I saw your thread title, TIGER, I assumed you had news of 33 bringing back the longest stick ever witnessed being carried by a UK osprey ;)
Seriously tho, it was evident from the start that Blue33 had some magnificent genes to pass on.

[/quote] Yes Blue 28 came from the 2010 site B nest. He was one of the chicks that benefited from Mrs 3(97) taking the loan of poor old 9(98) in order to feed the chicks. It would be great if we had some captures of him. Tiger Signature

33's brother, 28, fishes at River Gwash Trout Farm/Horn Mill Trout Farm. Have a look at the River Gwash Ospreys Facebook page and among other great photos (some of 28), scroll down to April 15 where there is a lovely flight photo of 28: www.facebook.com/River-Gwash-Ospreys-896903713712257 . Their website ( www.rivergwashtroutfarm.co.uk ) has a great video on a loop on their home page of a ringed fishing Osprey--I hope someone can read the ring!
Kind regards, Ann
Or just click on the first photo on the River Gwash Facebook page and click through--lots of great photos, many of 28.
Ann. I've frozen the screen on the video and I'd say that it is Blue 28.
Birdies LG DU update.

I'd better not, GB, I'll never get out of there... but I've nabbed a lovely photo of him to replace MaryGK's squirrel that got lost in a reinstall. Thank you! :)
