I have not cried at the loss of our Prince Charming, Odin the Magnificent. Nor did I cry as we watched 3 osprey chicks starve to death. This isn't just the too early end of this 2017 season, it is the end of an era. Tears can't compensate for that.
I log in to the cam, I see an empty nest. I switch up to DU I read that EJ has returned to defend that nest. No joy there, nor is there any joy for me in seeing pictures of bobbleheads in other nests. This just reminds me that I should be enjoying the antics of the wee ones at LG, where there is nothing but an empty nest.
Tonight I will start a new thread for Gabfest for Summer, 2017 (June, July, August). I will try to start on a cheerful note. I do hope you will still find this a place to share any news of the osprey world that is of interest to you as well as other matters of interest.
Hi June and Everyone, It does seem like the end of an era. We may well never know what happened to the magnificent Odin, but he had a good long reign and who knows, he may yet reappear, though I am not holding my breath. Fingers crossed that EJ continues to defend their nest, with or without a helper and returns again next year. There are Osprey successes elsewhere this year and perhaps a male like Blue 33 will partner with EJ and have yet another long reign.
Kind regards, Ann
