EJ spent a lot of time on the campost yesterday, possibly due to the presence of the pesky varminty Pine Marten - who is still keeping her up now!
Slo-mo extract from last evening's pop-up (thank you to MARY and SHEILA for telling me what was in my own video ;-) )

Firefox fixed - Flash !!!
I reinstalled Flash and now Firefox (Waterfox, actually) is playing the Carnyx cam, with sound, on the recording laptop.
(Mystery - why is Flash required for HTML5 video?)
Thank you for the Blackbird ID, MOFFER. I should've known you'd know ;-)
Woodpecker?
I think I should have said "squealy/shrieky", not "squeaky". How would you describe it?
SheilaFE said: I do hope the PM does not cause problems. So far EJ has been resolute in guarding her domain. I woke in the night thinking about her. OK, PM's are also a protected species, but could moth balls be the solution!! If they were stuffed throughout the nest over the winter when it makes itself at home, the smell could deter it. It wouldn't bother EJ as osprey (I understand) do not smell.Meanwhile let's hope it takes the hint.

I wouldn't think so Pandy. They are a protected species. It'll get the message and leave or face the wrath of two adult Osprey soon.

I do hope that EJ isn't out shopping for a single Osprey male.

Pat O: Here is an excellent vid of skydancing. Clearly it is difficult to keep the cam on the male, but its excellent for the sound. It also includes the female intruder calling too.
Scylla: don't forget T&C excellent web site has a mine of useful information! Including here
Pandy, I agree with Moffer, it is too late now to intervene. Besides which, they could not go anywhere near the nest now that EJ is back, even if she is off cavorting with another male! One year, I think it might have been 2010, the VC had a PM nest beneath it, so they are resident and regular.
Another lovely sunny evening, but not a sign of EJ.

Really useful video of skydancing. Thanks Sheila. I hope EJ comes back soon.
