Wow - I missed the update on YD - thrilled he was sighted and photographed. He is my first ever tagged osprey to have returned safely. I followed from the start and it was such a shame his tracker failed just as he got back into the UK on his first return. Great to hear that he is doing well. Thank you!

Awww thanks very much for that photo of White UF escorting the fledgling. The photo of the youngster making a fishing attempt is great too, those lily pads are synonymous with Balgavies.
I made my first visit to Balgavies in 2013 but it was in May before the chicks hatched, can you remember how many chicks there was that year please?
2017 - 3 chicks
2016 - 4 chicks
2015 - 1 chick
2014 - 2 chicks
2013 - ?
2012 - Blue YD
Well its back to Scottish now Roberto :-) and much much lower temperatures I am afraid, and rain as well. :-(
Good to see you back Mary. Just in time for sunrise at MB!
Birdies LG DU update.

I didn't visit Balgavies in 2013 and cannot tell, sorry. Tried to search in the forum, but there was no specific thread at that time and I could only find a mention to your visit in spring.
Mary, it looks as tho there could have been two chicks in 2013. See a paper article here
No details of sex or ring numbers, sadly.

That's brilliant Sheila, thanks for finding it. I never thought I should have googled it.
So its a really good productive nest, as no failures in 6 years.
I think I have worked out why there was no specific thread for Balgavies in 2013, I may have posted elsewhere about my first visit there. :-)
Darren was at the loch again and got some great photos of the female. Click on the photo to take you to his post.

Also thanks for this, Mary
I absolutely love this photo Darren took last night, he said it was in poor light, well it looks absolutely stunning to me. Mum and her three juveniles, the third chick has yet to fledge, maybe today will be the day.
I feel so down about EJ disappearing so early in the season, it makes me feel like giving up, but then I see a photo like this of the Balgavies nest, it just fills my heart to see these three chicks, it is such a special place and special family too.
