The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.

A lovely star to the season, Karen, Let's hope they both return safe and sound, and before those pesky EGs!

Can't wait to see Maya and 33 again
Thank you, KAREN! I'll have to retrain myself to call it the Manton Bay nest instead of Rutland, and these things tend to take "a while" ;-)
Remembering the huge success of last season, I can't resist posting MIKE's fabulous capture:
But from now on, it's forwards not backwards ;-)

Thanks Sheila. Somehow I have a feeling when the cam goes online, the first thing we will see is those pesky EGs! When will they learn.
Patily - likewise, I can't wait to see Maya and 33 again.

Scylla - great capture by Mike - thanks for posting it.
I just named the thread "Manton Bay" to help distinguish it from the "Rutland Osprey Project" thread but if you or anyone prefers me to prefix it "Rutland" then I will change it :-)
Talking of the webcam going on-line, hopefully it will be tomorrow. No doubt they will have stripped back the nest so 33 will once more have his work cut out for him but he loves building and we love seeing the sticks coming in.
Personally, this is what I am looking forward to seeing :-D
33(11) is such a character, I loved the captures of him bringing in the two sticks. It looked like he was on stilts, and when he lies beside Maya awwww!

Mary, I will never forward the vision of 33(11) and the two sticks, he is indeed a character.
He is totally besotted with Maya and the way he gets himself down beside her - he is just adorable.
I am expecting him to arrive on Sunday 26th March - Mother's day, well what more could Maya want :-)
33(11) was determined to get that Manton Bay nest after he visited it as a chick it must have stuck in his mind, it was a shame what happened with 28(10) but in the end I think it worked out well, as 33 is definitely a worthy successor to 5R, and now that 28(10) is breeding himself it's all ended well.
