The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.
Unknown said:Karen, I wonder if the EG pair who ruined 51's and 3J's nesting attempt was the same pair who were booted off the Manton Bay nest last year! If there is anyone who can easily visit Rutland Water, perhaps they will be so good as to tell us if there is also a 2nd EG pair on Lagoon 4 now.
Gardenbirder, could well have been but I don't think we will ever know for sure. It was mentioned in the blog "Walk like an Egyptian" that they were under attack from more than one pair. Hopefully we'll get news of the other nests/sites and perhaps we may be lucky, if she has time, to get some news from Sandra when she does her volunteering next week.
Morning Patily
Empty nest just now. I hope Maya is back soon and 33 not long behind her.
Looking forward to seeing dear Maya and hubby
Couple of crows have landed. One of them pecking at the nest material again looking as if it is searching for eggs.
Cormorant back on the nest just now.

Noc ... Gardenbirder has summarised the situation well about the trouble the EGs caused at Lagoon 4.

In answer to a query earlier this month Kayleigh has confirmed to me that there is NO VLC link for the Manton Bay camera.
Birdies LG DU update.
After spending about 30 mins on the nest this morning, the cormorant then took off. I have not seen any action on /around the nest this afternoon until now - the cormorant is back!
On favourite perch, hanging out to dry :-D
Checking round the nest now Karen.
