The purpose of this thread is for recording the season’s day to day activity at the Manton Bay nest thus freeing up the Rutland Osprey Project 2017 thread for general news on all the other birds, nests and projects.
For anyone new following Manton Bay, Maya and Blue 33(11) have been the resident pair for the last two years and to date have raised six chicks. More details about the nest and a table of the breeding data can be found here. Last season Maya returned on the 21 March and Blue 33(11) arrived a few days later on the 27 March.

I am sure I speak for us all in wishing Maya and Blue 33(11) a safe journey home and for another successful season at Manton Bay.

Tiger's Osprey News
Noc, I forgot to say that the EGs are also annoyingly determined--lol!
Kind regards, Ann
Karen, I wonder if the EG pair who ruined 51's and 3J's nesting attempt was the same pair who were booted off the Manton Bay nest last year! If there is anyone who can easily visit Rutland Water, perhaps they will be so good as to tell us if there is also a 2nd EG pair on Lagoon 4 now.
I didn't know that last year the geese got an osprey nest. I thought it was easy for ospreys to send the geese packing.
Noc, The Osprey pair on the platform in Lagoon 4 were inexperienced so I imagine they had no idea about evicting Egyptian Geese and they were probably a little afraid of the Geese, which is speculation of course but possible. Male 51 has been around for years (hatched 2011) but I do not think he has ever had a nest (if that is wrong I trust someone will let us know). The female, 3J, was much younger and a sister of 1J, also from the 2013 Manton Bay nest.
An EG has spent most of the night alone on the nest looking rather forlorn, but it's gone now.
It had been sitting down for a long time, then stood up, then walked towards the side of the nest and flew:
IMAGICAT
Morning all - thanks for all the updates and captures.
The other two Rutland females who have returned, 25(10) and 5N(04) returned this year on the same date as they did last year so I am wonder if we will see Maya today?

Noc ... Gardenbirder has summarised the situation well about the trouble the EGs caused at Lagoon 4.

Good Morning KAREN
